This evening, at approximately 6:30, I went to pick up my son from his familiar daycare, which is conveniently situated a few doors down. After picking him up, I decided to drop off some donations in the green donation bin. As I parked my car and made my way towards the bins to drop off some items, I couldn’t help but notice a lady working at 12 Foundations School. She was wearing a hat and a mask, and her demeanor immediately caught my attention.
As I approached the donation bins, the lady from 12 Foundations School began staring at us intently, almost as if we were criminals. It was a disconcerting and uncomfortable experience. To my surprise, she even pretended to go back inside the school, seemingly to stall her departure until we had left the area. The entire incident left me feeling disgusted and disheartened.
Given this unpleasant encounter, I couldn’t help but question how the staff at 12 Foundations School treats children when their parents are not present or if they perceive certain individuals as outsiders. The unwelcoming and suspicious behavior exhibited by the lady from 12 Foundations School raises concerns about the school’s overall atmosphere and how they potentially interact with the community.
Prior to this incident, I had been considering enrolling my son in 12 Foundations School, believing it to be a convenient and suitable choice. However, based on what transpired, my confidence in the school has been significantly shaken. The welfare and treatment of my child are of utmost importance to me, and I cannot overlook an experience that left me feeling uneasy about the institution.
As a parent, it is crucial to trust the environment and staff responsible for nurturing our children’s growth. I simply cannot fathom entrusting my child to an institution that may harbor unwarranted suspicion and make individuals feel unwelcome.
In conclusion, my personal experience near 12 Foundations School was unpleasant and has made me reconsider my decision to enroll my son there. The unsettling encounter with an employee who stared us down like criminals, combined with the feeling of not belonging, left a lasting impression. Parents should carefully consider the potential treatment their children may receive in an environment where such behavior is exhibited.
The students have always inspired me since the beginning, I came in when the pandemic was first starting and I was so impressed by the positivity and determination of these children to want to learn and have fun. These children are learning A LOT. The great thing about the school is that we Challenge our children and class options. Ms. Karen is always open to starting a new class or time which I can see families really appreciate her for that flexibility.
Once our students meet the learning goals we take it another step further, we dont just prepare them for next grade level, but two grades. Our preschoolers last year were only working on first grade material by the last 3/4 of school; writing sentences, two digit math, comprehension, spelling tests
These children are benefiting so much from the program and Im really glad to be apart of it.
There are so many great things that I want to share with other parents. Gulu Gulu promotes a warm, nurturing, safe and accepting learning environment. To be honest, the staff and other students feel more like extended family members the longer my son is in the program. He feels accepted for who he is, yet he is challenged to do his best.
Gulu Gulu provides small teacher to student ratios, which allow my son to get more attention and support he needs. Also, as a two parent working household, Gulu Gulu has safely picked up my son from his school and transported him to the learning center for the past 3 years without any issues or concerns.
