We relocated from Santa Rosa to Santa Cruz. Our dd attended Summerfield Waldorf, and we were excited to enroll her here, but it didn’t work out very well. She was bullied by an older girl for a number of months before we found out. There seemed to be no repercussions. We were told in so many words that this was something kids need to work out for themselves. Plus, we’re agnostic, and religion wasn’t an issue at Summerfield, but here it was more pronounced.

There are some pluses. The grounds are gorgeous, and there are some good down to earth folks. Maybe if your kid has a heartier disposition, it might work. Some kids seem happy enough.

My Waldorf education gave me an innate appreciation for nature and the arts, instilled compassion and self-worth, and cultivated a lifelong desire to critically think and to learn. It has shaped who I am, and was, without a doubt, responsible for the magical and innocent childhood I was blessed to experience. Waldorf is a community where children are cherished and nurtured and encouraged to hold onto their childhood for as long as possible. With parent involvement and a deep rooted relationship between the teachers and students, it offers an incredible alternative to the failing public education experienced.
