Solvit is everything you could hope for in a child-led education. Students, guides (teachers) and school leadership are happy and engaged and genuinely excited to learn and explore together. The studios are open, creative spaces filled with natural light where children can move freely and have the freedom to work in a way and at a pace that feels comfortable to them whether that means advancing beyond the baseline curriculum or having extra time without the pressures of falling behind. And their unique schedule with breaks every 5 weeks or so means kids arent burned out or disconnected from their families and personal passions.
Beyond the incredible academics, there is a beautiful sense of community at Solvit rooted in positivity, encouragement, and acceptance. Kindness and accountability are core values, and these kids are so connected and supportive of each other. This same sense of community is also felt among parents and staff. We love being able to come into the studio to see what our daughter has learned while also getting to know her friends and other parents.
I truly cannot say enough just how wonderful our experience at Solvit has been. Not only is our daughter excelling academically, but weve also seen her transform from shy and timid to confident and self-motivated. We are so thankful for the team at Solvit and we are simply in awe of what these kids are accomplishing every day.
I am disappointed to write a negative review, because I had high hopes – their educational model is something I support in principle, and I’m sure it is a good experience for the children who do get to attend. However, Solvit is run by founders who do not have any formal experience in education and just decided to start a school, so the admissions process as they are growing seems to require some thoughtful work and redesign. Our son was recently told he was “not a fit” for Solvit after they relayed misconstrued information from his current teacher as the reason, and that he didn’t interact enough with them during our tours (yes, we had to tour twice to get turned down). For reference, our son is a neurotypical 5 year old. He is well socialized (been at school since age 2) and academically advanced. Never at any point did they indicate there would be anything that would disqualify him from attending, until we received a rejection email as though my kindergartener was applying for college. This really rubbed me the wrong way, and points to mismanagement overall – they are also doubling their class size this year but not hiring any additional guides, so who knows what is happening behind the scenes. They desperately need someone with more experience to be running things.
