I was told that the principal gets her format to run the school from a the South Loop school, that the curriculum was top notch, however my child is bored the teachers aren’t educated enough to keep my child “busy” to hold his interest. If the curriculum was from The South Loop school then the other children wouldn’t be bullying b/c all children would be on point academically BUT my child goes through bullying because the children tease him because he is above academically & my child was mature enough to ask to sit by himself b/c the children pressure him for answers and he was told no. He was stung by a bee during school hours and his father or myself was NOT contacted, I came home from work with to my son with a swollen hand and in pain, he told me the teacher Ms. Mack asked him if he was allergic REALLY you asked him not his parents. This school is not for children who are academically gifted & educated, I see why people put their children in schools outside of a certain neighborhood. They had a incident where older boys came in the school with guns. This school has nothing to do with fine arts, it is a fraud, parents were not notified of the gun situation I just happened to be in the office because my sons teacher lost control and yelled at my son in an unprofessional & unacceptable nature. My son is not being challenged academically. This isn’t an academy this is a basic poorly ran African American school in the hood.
My daughter currently attends this school for pre-k I took her out of daycare with the expectations that my daughter would be challenged and in a more advance environment compared to daycare. However I can’t say I’m impressed. I haven’t noticed much growth compared to last year and I don’t think I saw enough material coming home to make me comfortable enough that she will be prepared for kindergarten. Her teacher is a very creative woman she’s patient and has great tips on how to work with and communicate with your child on a emotional level or tips on how to get your child focused she’s great but I’m more concerned With what she’s not learning and coming home with. Work books flash cards and personal assignments from me has gotten her closer to where she should be next year not school. Staff are friendly and professional. I can tell by the boards from other classes that a lot of the teachers are awesome I just expected more for my pre-K student at a magnet school. Principal didn’t seem to take my concerns as serious as I would have liked her too but still professional. Do your homework before you enroll your child if you’re really looking for a challenge and your child to be challenged I would suggest keep looking.
