I will try to be objective. The school’s curriculum is very strict. It’s work, work, work plus projects, homework, etc… Definitely not for any child. Four of my children went to Ada Merritt. Two graduated from the school, the other two were just withdrawn today. I have a son diagnosed with ADHD and another is gifted. It’s just too much for a child, in my opinion. Eight hours in school studying for regular classes and 9 if your child is in IS (International Studies). Come home, do another two hours of H.W. Just too much. It all depends on you and your child. There are some great teachers, but most are not. There IS BULLYING. The principal is ONLY concerned about the reputation of the school, not your concerns or your child’s. I had to write a letter to the superintendent due to an issue the principal did not want to resolve. Of course, after Mr. Carvalho’s staff contacted the school, she had no other choice but to resolve the issue. Everyone’s experience is different, but my two daughters who graduated Ada Merrit regret every moment spent in the school. The other two were crazy to leave. I’m only speaking from my own experience. To each their own.
I find it very pointless for some of the kids that attend this school to simply come here and rate the school one star and give it a sorry ass review that’s not even a complete sentence. Anyways, in my personal opinion I think that Ada Merritt k-8 Center is a great school with a rigorous course of study. They are very strict and do demand a lot of their students so do not enroll if you are not ready for tons of home work and projects that will be graded hardly. The only problem I have with the school is that it does need a little bit of cleaning and remodeling because it hasn’t been well tended to for a couple of years now. I also think that they should work on hiring new teachers for the middle school Portuguese program and find a better educated and more approaching music teacher.
This is my personal opinion on the school I have attended since pre-kindergarten and am soon going to start my 8th grade year in.
