I definitely got the beauty education I wanted and the “flight hours” in terms of practice; I would recommend the Beauty 101 course, particularly for those unsure how to begin this career. My instructor, Lisa, was amazing. It was a little weird being in there with so many 18 year olds, but that’s not really a criticism or the school’s fault, I just happened to be coming into this career later in life and didn’t have much in common with the people ten years younger (it wasn’t something they told me about when touring; they made it seem like a continuing education school).

The hair course wasn’t worth the money, in my opinion, but I got a teacher who wasn’t there often and seemed deeply checked out. Our subs were very knowledgeable, but also disinterested and we couldn’t get a good learning rhythm going. There was A LOT of downtime, like an absurd amount. We didn’t even touch on African American hair, which was a reason I was willing to pay so much for this particular course. So, I definitely would not recommend the hair course, in case anyone wants to take it as a stand alone class. But, then again, this school isn’t a cosmetology school, so hair really isn’t their main strength.

Overall, I’d say that this is still the best place to learn in NYC. It definitely is a good school and the benefits of going there definitely have outweighed any negatives.

I went to Makeup Designory in 2018-2019 and it was truly the best experience I could ever wish for. It was the first time I loved going to school and learning about something I am so passionate about. I did the Fashion Makeup Artistry Program which was 392 clock hours. I had Lisa, J Sterling, and Meredith as my amazing teachers! We were taught everything between artistry to sanitation to even how to network. MUD set me up for success as a Makeup Artist. I now am working as a bicoastal Makeup Artist in Los Angeles and New York. My work has had multiple publishes and I have been in some amazing rooms doing what I love all thanks to MUD. I would recommend this school to any artist who is passionate about their craft and wants to learn from the pros! I still am in contact with my teachers from MUD and I love visiting Makeup Designory as an Alumni. This week I actually plan on visiting the Burbank MUD location! To whoever is reading this I wish you the best luck on your path as a Makeup Artist, Makeup Designory is the best place to start your makeup journey!
