Dear Sevag Berberian,
Unfortunately, after all, it seems to be not a very great ENVIRONMENT for learning, is it? I detect a lot of misspelled words in these posts…
However, I’m a parent of a student who attended Ferrahian for less than a year. In short, our purpose was to send our child to an Armenian school to grow in an Armenian spirit inside an Armenian school. The result was a true blow to our family. We found the academics in that school not at appropriate standards it should’ve been on. Some teachers work at the school based only on their connections to the parish or priest in Ferrahian Church; and not equipped with solid knowledge of the subject they were teaching. But the true disappointment came from students themselves. They were nothing but aggressive, mean, unkind, lack of politeness, and uncouth. They were so far away from being compared to American civility and general attitude that you can see in American schools. The principal at that time was traveling to the school back and forth having his car parked very close to his office. He never walked in the premises of the school itself. You never could see him around lunchtime, observing the school life, the children, or even talking to children. In his conceited attitude, he thought his sole role as a school principal was to decorate his own office, something so very uncommon in American schools where you see the principal all day long with students in school premises at lunch, and generally everywhere. Not only that, when we addressed him about wild and very uncommon behavior in terms of extremely low class behavior from some students toward another student, and we demanded to meet those students’ parents and to hear them apologize for their behavior, he proclaimed that he does not believe in asking for forgiveness from the student. So, without hesitating we removed our child from this school. Until today, although years past since then, there is just deep regret in my heart for sending my child to that nondisciplinary school, least to say, and subject my child to such an unrefined and raw environment. Mr. Nalbandian, however, tried to make a difference in all this. It truly pains me to write this, which is a true account of our experience about an Armenian school, myself being an Armenian.
