I was in the medical program and while it’s a rigorous course and the education is good, the social factor is HORRENDOUS. A few examples: my sophomore year a group of seniors bullied two blind students by dressing up as them and mocking them for school pride- to my knowledge staff did nothing. Some people dressed up as “worker mexicans” and “Islamic terrorists” and one kid in my class just didn’t wear a shirt. Again, staff did not care. The boy in my class was not called out by staff until 7th period. He was just told to put his shirt back on. The students here, from my and some others experiences, are very biased. While this bit doesn’t bother me, it is sort of strange to me that there is a “Christian athletes club” (in which you don’t have to be an athlete apparently- more power to them I suppose) and a “Day of prayer”. Why religion is intertwined with school, I’m not sure. Nice place to go for education, but be sure to watch out if your kid isn’t exactly like the rest of the kids in the school. Many students are also quite homophobic/racist, but that might just be a high school thing.
Horrendous, the kids are awful and the teachers do nothing about it. Kids have literally smoked pot and done other drugs in front of teachers multiple times and haven’t got in trouble. I guess it makes sense because they condone racist and hateful staff. The teachers aren’t understanding either, a student messes up on one assignment and suddenly they’re failing.
