To be fair, if your child is one of those people who get in trouble a lot, they may not like this school or the faculty members here. You can try anyways, though, I knew of a person who was like that and left with good memories.
Overall, I enjoyed BELL Academy. Even though this school made me become a night owl and my class got in trouble a lot for being too chaotic, it really was just an obstacle to overcome. That’s just one part of it. The other comes from how you make up your time in this school.
While there aren’t really that many “clubs” in this school, and most of the elective classes are restricted to only a 90 minute double-period once per week, there are other ways to make up this time. You can hang out with friends, get extra help from teachers on some days, go to the library, so on and so forth. Most of these usually happen during lunch or after school, but there are some exceptions.
Speaking of people, the teachers here are nice. Even though they may seem bad according to these other comments, you really just have to get on their good side in order to have a good time with them. Don’t make yourself get a bad impression from them. The students here are nice here too; you can make some real good friendships and memories with them, but there are times when students can show disrespect and attitudes towards one another. I’ve seen this happen several times, some of them major ones. In this case, you don’t have to be their friend.
Academically, this place does a good job at doing what it’s supposed to do. However, there were several times teachers left mid-year for various reasons. For me, it was late enough in the year already that it didn’t really impact much. Any other situation though, I can’t really help you with that. Also, expect to take various regents in 8th grade.
I loved this school. It impacted me a lot whether that be mentally, socially, and morally, so much that I still keep them to this day. I’d recommend going to the school. Just know this: Your child will change drastically in ways other than puberty throughout your time here, plus they will become a late-night sleeper. Expect the homework policy to be strict here, as well as the homework itself. Also this school shares buildings with another elementary school downstairs.
And to you students reading this, here’s a piece of advice: You only have one middle school to go through. Make the best out of it while you can, because chances are, you will be separated from this community you will be in by the time you graduate it. Trust me, you’ll need this.
My child suffered such severe bullying that he was diagnosed with PTSD. When i tried to approach the school to address the trauma, I was given nothing but excuses.
That the other kids had family issues etc., they were good kids. Barely acknowledging the physical and emotional harassment they caused. All excuses, no action.
The entire staff was so indifferent and held none of the kids that harassed him accountable.
If you value your child’s mental health, seek another school. It has been three years, and we are still trying to undo the damage.
