I am sure St. Damien is a good school. This said, the sports program needs to learn humility and compassion which is as important as endurance, winning, etc. The 2021/2022 7th grade basketball coaches won a hard fought game by 30 points but for the last minute they just held the ball and wouldn’t continue playing. I can see if you’re up by 5 and want to keep the ball away, but up by 30?! A very classless move by the coaches (one thinks of the Karate Kid here). One of the coaches even got visibility defensive to a parent from the opposing team while trying to justify his decision. On the plus side, I will say it was a good life lesson for the kids who witnessed and/or experienced this unsportsmanlike play.
My child has been attending st Damien school for a total of three years I have made the principle and the teachers aware of my child being afraid. I was told my child could no longer attend the school because I have made accusations about two students who Mother’s works at st Damien. Bullying should be taking seriously no matter whose child it comes from. I trusted this school with my child safety and I thought I was paying for a peace of mind and an great education. Your child learning environment should be safe.
