Atascadero Junior High is Awesome! My son transferred from Templeton Middle School. I have always heard great things about Templeton schools but we experienced complete opposite. My son had all F’s with the exception of P.E. He hated going to school there. From day one starting at AJH my son has LOVED going to school. His counselor came out to meet him while I was filling out paperwork to get him enrolled. She asked him what he liked to do on his free time, she actually had a one on one conversation with him asking him questions and actually listening to him. Before I was even done filling out paperwork they were out on the basketball courts shooting hoops, talking and getting to know each other. She made sure he knew where all of his classrooms were and told him if he needs anything to stop in anytime. He loves his science and history classes! The teachers make it fun and they keep their interest so it’s not boring. He was absent last week due to the flu so he had to get his makeup homework. He had some questions on his math so he asked the teacher if he could come in at lunch time and she had no problem with it what so ever. She even showed him a couple of tricks. It took her 5 minutes of her one on one time and my son got a 24/25 on his math test (that’s a first!) I truly believe if a kid is failing a class then that teacher is not doing their job. Granted some kids just don’t care….or they may have other things going on. As a teacher I would hope they would be able to zone in and maybe talk to that child to see if there is something they can do differently. I received a phone call from one of his teachers at AJH to check in to see if my son was needing some specific help cause she noticed his grade had gone down. That right there tells you a lot about that teacher. She cares and she wants to see him succeed and do well. He went in the next day and figured out what the deal was…. They have been working hand in hand ever since and doing quite well! My son hates to miss school now. Before he would have given me every excuse possible to stay home.. now it’s every excuse to not stay home.. we recently moved to Paso, but because we love AJH so much I’ve been driving him back and forth every day. It’s gonna be hard this next year switching to Paso….hmmm decisions to be made.
We transferred to AJH last year and my 7th grade student had a great experience. The teachers and the administration were fabulous. We have an IEP and individualized accommodations. They were fabulous all year working to make sure that it was a successful year. The student body was also great. Junior High can be a rough transition but AJH was a wonderful school, looking forward to 8th grade.
