I have a child that attends the 6th grade at Travis Middle and I have concerns regarding the distant learning plan taking place. My child is currently on a 504 plan how are his accommodations taken into consideration. I have not been contacted by a teacher or administrator at Travis Middle school. According to TEA “As long as general education students are receiving any type of instruction, the U.S. Department of Education and the Texas Education Agency require schools to provide services to students with disabilities, as spelled out in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Students with so-called 504 plans, which offer accommodations such as more time to take tests, must be given equitable access to school work”.
My child is being graded on assignments through Google classroom which are tied to the gradebook/skyward but is not being provided services. How is this right ?Also attendance is being taken as a grade on skyward? During this crisis of our children not being able to attend school has brought many changes to our lives which we are still adjusting to at home. I’m a single mother and my child at times may not be able to attend class at the designated time. This is something they should not be penalized for it is out of their control if I have to take my child to a sitters house because i have to work.
I see on the school website its a recommended schedule. Also, I thought the point of google classroom is so students can work on their assignments at any time but of course meeting assignment deadline. But what about my childs extra time will that be taken into consideration? Please help me have a clear understanding of the how the school distant learning plan using google classroom is being accommodated to meet my childs needs. I Also know TEA is currently working on a Special education work force team to help support school districts is this something the district is waiting on? If so, why are grades being pulled if accommodations are not being followed.

Thank you

School District is a joke, especially DE LEON MIDDLE SCHOOL. THEY DNT CARE ABOUT ANYTHING. They say they will take care of a situation you have but dnt. Plus every time I call to speak to someone they are busy and NEVER RETURN THE CALL. SCHOOL IS A JOKE
