The CLA 16 Crash Course surpassed all my expectations. The instructor Ysabella (???) was a very knowledgeable, motivating, and engaging teacher. She was able to convey complex concepts about the language in a really simple and easy-to-understand way. She made it easy to understand the components of Chinese characters and sentence structure, and to thereby start absorbing them. She also shared fascinating and valuable insights about Chinese culture, e.g., business etiquette, interacting with new acquaintances and co-workers versus much closer family and friends, etc.

I just finished the Crash Course last night and am shocked at how much I have learned in such a short time… I wish I had taken this class 7 years ago, when I first started traveling to China for work! I will definitely be signing up for the next level of classes with CLA Tysons Corner.

I can’t say enough good things about CLA. The CLA 16 course was a great introduction to Mandarin. The class size was small (only 5 people), which allowed for everyone to participate. I consider myself someone who is generally slow at learning languages, but I thought the program moved at a completely manageable pace that even I could handle.

Our instructor, Chelsea Xu, was incredibly patient. She not only answered questions in class, but was very quick to respond to questions via email. I honestly didn’t expect the quality of instruction to be so high. The class was better than any of the language courses I completed in college.

The CLA administrative staff were also great at answering more general admin related questions. I absolutely intend to take the next level of classes at CLA.
