If you can? STAY AWAY FROM THIS SCHOOL. The teachers does nothing. The student can make a complaint etc and it will go unheard or they will be painted out as the bad kid of the school. (prior review about bullying is true) EVERYTHING GOES UNHEARD. They schedule meetings to address the issue but when you arrive? NO ONE knows who set what up or why you’re there as if you scheduled the meeting yourself. When i arrived for a meeting the way i was treated was ridiculous. Mr. Martinez stood literally right next to me on the phone and spoke about me in a ridiculous manner. rather than try to see why i was there. (will attach pic.)Completely unorganized and unprofessional. Mr martinez verbally abuses his coworkers in-front of parents/visitors speaks to them as if they are children i was honestly shocked when i witnessed this. If you can speak to your coworkers in this manner. It makes me question, Is my kid being treated this way? Is this why kids aren’t comfortable or feel like staff aren’t on their side? A report will be made. The main concern here is not your kid’s education believe me. STAY AWAY IF YOU CAN ! I have tried the route of reaching out to the staff but the behavior here is ridiculous and i will continue until the problem is resolved.
This has definitely been my worst experience in the school system by far. My son is in kindergarten and attends Brownsville Ascend on Pitkin Ave. He has an IEP for speech therapy only and of course the services were unavailable inside the school so it was suggested to me that I reach out to outside sources for the services he needed. But aren’t charter schools supposed to have extra funding compared to the regular DOE schools???? Besides the lack of services, the kindergarten curriculum was all over the place. Now fortunately my son does know how to read but not every child is on the same level. They should be learning the basics but my child was coming home with word problems that should be given to second graders not kindergarteners. I had two different teachers outside of the ascend network telling me that the curriculum was way too advanced for kindergarten. How can you expect these children to master problem solving when they didn’t even begin with the basics?? Make it make sense please. Needless to say, this will be my son’s last and final year in Brownsville Ascend.
