Great leadership and its relationship with parents are great. It seems like many negative reviews concern the admissions team. Overall, staff retention at the school is great, and the admissions team members present when we joined are still there—they were fantastic.

First, they take your admissions fee of about £110 per child. Then, they tell you to do an assessment. You pass the assessment, and then they end up saying there’s still a waiting list. Why did you take the admission fee if there wasn’t a place? Is this some sort of money-making scheme? They are not even agreeing to a refund for the admission fee. This is definitely not RGS behaviour! I will be complaining to their Guildford sister school!

As a concerned parent, I feel it is necessary to share my experience with RGS. Over the past year, several parents, including myself, have noticed a disturbing trend of discrimination based on ethnicity within the school’s teaching staff. This issue has been particularly evident in the way some teachers interact with students from diverse backgrounds, leading to an uncomfortable and unwelcoming environment for our children.

One department that stands out in its lack of professionalism and inclusivity is the PE department. The behavior of the staff in this department is nothing short of appalling. Many of us have witnessed or heard about instances where PE teachers have treated students unfairly, making biased remarks and showing favoritism that clearly aligns with ethnic backgrounds. This has not only affected our children’s self-esteem but also their willingness to participate in physical activities.

Adding to the problem is the head of the PE department, whose credentials and professionalism for the role are highly questionable. Despite numerous complaints and concerns raised by parents, the administration has failed to address the issue adequately. It is disheartening to see such an unqualified individual in a leadership position, setting a poor example for both the staff and students.

We, as parents, believe that every child deserves a safe and nurturing educational environment. It is imperative for the school administration to take these concerns seriously and implement necessary changes to ensure that all students are treated with respect and equality, regardless of their ethnicity. Until significant improvements are made, I cannot, in good conscience, recommend RGS to other parents.

Very poor behavior was displayed by students and their parents. The staff had no interest in addressing the situation, and parents were shouting, even using swearwords, at the children from the other school. When one child tried to apologize, her parent told her to shut up, as did the child who was the subject of the apology, leading the apologetic student to cry. This unacceptable behavior should not be tolerated at school. It is absolutely disgusting.

Our daughter is attending FS1 at RGS. We are so grateful to her teachers, who are very attentive, caring, and obviously highly qualified. Our daughter looks forward to each school day with excitement, and as a parent, that’s the best endorsement I could ask for. The school has a great facility that is secure and safe, offering a happy environment for kids’ educational journeys.

All the negative reviews about the admissions team are unfortunately true. I called several times over a week and got nowhere. I left messages with the receptionist and got nowhere. The receptionist couldn’t answer very basic questions and was trying to get rid of me.
I called several other schools in Dubai, and every other receptionist managed to answer my questions. If this is how they deal with prospective parents when you are willing to pay good money, I dread to think how they deal with current students and parents.

Ensuring the happiness of the children at the school holds immense significance to me, as I profoundly value the pivotal role of a quality education. Although the school possesses numerous commendable aspects, there exists a compelling opportunity to further enhance the inclusion department through various means. For instance, introducing additional group sessions could be instrumental in facilitating social connections among children who encounter difficulties in forging friendships. Additionally, it is noticeable that a select group of exceptionally talented students consistently monopolize opportunities in choir, sports, music, and theater plays, leaving little room for others to participate. Establishing a fair and equitable system that provides every child an equal chance to engage in these activities for a designated period is indispensable, as it fosters the exploration of diverse interests and unlocks their full potential. I must also commend the amazing principal for her dedication and leadership in fostering an environment of growth and excellence. By implementing these simple improvements, under the guidance of the remarkable principal, I am confident that RGS has the potential to become one of the premier schools in Dubai.
