Then I was bullied by one of my own teachers (Mrs Deirdre Neill, my Art teacher), from 2000-2002. The last time she screamed at me, I came VERY close to losing my sanity (I was 16). The school said that they were going to get at her about it, and that “she was on her last legs” (apparently I wasn’t the only student she bullied).
It was agreed that any time I had Art, I was to go to the Library instead. Once Monday came around, I was told by my Head of Year (Mrs Valerie Steenson) that I had to go back to my Art classes. She made it out as if my Art teacher was having a laugh (so, screaming at a student twice a week, for two years, then screaming “YOU’RE STUPID, AND PATHETIC! YOU’RE NOT GOOD AT ART, OR ANYTHING ELSE, YOU NEVER *HAVE* BEEN, AND YOU NEVER *WILL* BE!!!”, and literally driving me to the brink of insanity was a JOKE?!).
I ended up with moderate to severe Anxiety, and severe C-PTSD (Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), not to mention my depression went close to manic.
It took me until April 2010 to start to put my head on straight, after that woman did what she did to me. Then I found out she was due retire in June 2010. That was some “last legs” she was on; eight years after she bullied me to the brink of insanity she retired.
I’m now 32 years old, and I STILL suffer the after effects of what happened at that school. Put it this way, HELL would have been a nice place to go for a little R & R after spending time in that school!
If I ever have kids, there’s absolutely no friggin’ way would I let them attend Glengormley High School!
If you’re a parent, and reading these reviews (including mine), and you’re wondering if this is a good school to send your kids: DON’T! Send them somewhere else. Trust me.
I would give this school zero stars if I could.
