I would seriously consider all alternatives before committing a child to four years at Newnham Middle. I have serious reservations about the quality of teaching and attitude of teaching staff in terms of individual learning plans and academic expectations. The classes are too large and ineffectively divided by any usual or standard key factors. Staff motivation appears low.
If you consider the education of the young in terms of fountains of knowledge then Newnham is surely a stagnant pond.
The sports facilities are good but the understanding of sporting hierarchies outside of age and stage of the pupils range of 9-13 seems very limited. If you have a child aspiring to sporting excellence avoid Newnham.
The geographical location is very convenient but the close proximity of two other schools means the traffic situation could be considered quite dangerous.
The state of the school buildings is reasonable and children do seem to be generally happy but most children will never have the benefit of experiencing any alternative education establishment for comparison, limiting their ability to judge whether or not their time might have been better spent elsewhere.
For context I have three children that passed through Newnham from 1998 – 2014.
I sincerely hope the new head will turn the school around and make it a success for future generations, she certainly has her finger more firmly on the pulse than her predecessors, noting the speed she called to query this review.
Brilliant open evening – shown around the school by a very enthusiastic student and found the teaching staff to be helpful and informative.

Daughter really excited to be starting Newnham in September.

Today, with my business Immersive Theatres, I delivered a 7m digital planetarium experience to 450 Nursery to Year 4 pupils at Castle Newnham School. I was warmly welcomed by the teacher when I arrived and found the hall prepared just as I had requested. The day was well-organised with all groups arriving on time. The excited but well-behaved students enjoyed a rich selection of content: peering up at the planetarium night sky, visiting the International Space Station, going on an underwater adventure, travelling across the Solar System and viewing a variety of 360deg films. Thank you Castle Newnham School for a very pleasant visit.
Went there in yr 6 for 4 months. It was really good and I learnt a lot of english there as I am from another country.
