The beacon suffers from a woeful lack of expertise across the senior leadership team and has huge issues surrounding it’s safeguarding.
My daughter recently had her assistant head of year, ignore legal familial protocols and encourage her not to travel to visit my family (her father). She in fact phoned her mother, ignorant of the fact I was the parent with parental authority and decided to go rogue. Her words were ‘as a mum, I have to phone your mum.’
This caused such a rift in our family my daughter didn’t visit four months. This has never happened previously.
Since then my daughter has returned and realises the impact that the school had on her.
What was of greater concern is when we raised a grievance the evidence we sent in was ignored at first, then private documents were thumbed and scrutinised without permission by their chair of meeting, despite is telling him that he was not permitted to view them.
They then covered up the safeguarding lies that the member of staff told.
An assistant head pulled my daughter out of class and insisted she write up the events around my complaint to which my daughter refused. The senior leader then stated that she needs to as ‘ your dad may take us to court!’ breaching significant GDPR and generally being appallingly unprofessional.
Despite attempting to resolve amicably the schools response is to be aggressive and shut out any criticism.
I investigated further and found three families in the same year group who had significant issues ignored by the school and wanted to take action.
Finally in their recent Ofsted, they ‘excluded’ around 30 of the worst behaved children (allegedly).
The students who are in fact excellent students that I have spoken to do not believe the school is outstanding. It is in circles around the school, a bit of a source of amusement, how this grading has been obtained.
It is a sad enditement on modern education and i guess, the blind squirrel finds the occasional nut.
Avoid at all costs.
Awful place to send your children to. I sent my child here and they came out 6 weeks later with severe depression and anxiety. They are pushing these kids too far and they dont care about their mental health. Uwu
Worst school to send your child to by far, the school will take literally anyone for teachers and when I reported my perv maths teacher to HR they dismissed it completely and forced me to drop it despite there also being a video of him being pissed up in the local pub at the time. Headteacher never makes an appearance, mental health issues are simply brushed off and bullying and children full on jumping you in school is labelled as “friendship issues”. I had a blood vessel in my eye burst by a girl when I was there who bullied me for years, I finally punched her back one day and I got in trouble and they threatened to take my friends phone for taking a photo of my eye because it “made the school look bad” this was when phones were allowed in school and the girl had stolen and hidden my entire bag. She got no punishment. Staff cause arguments with kids and when reported, change the story which is believed as they are staff so they are “more trustworthy” – this happened to me when my assistant head of year suspended me for “talking back” when I told her I couldn’t wait an hour after school to have “a chat with my head of year” because I had to get home, but i could do it at break or something the next day. She turned it into an argument and blocked all the doors so I just went past her and went home. The head of year wasn’t even in on that day and didn’t want to talk to me, they held a meeting and made me sit outside for about an hour in the hallway between classrooms as they twisted the story to my mum whilst I wasn’t allowed in the room, they then allowed me in to tell me off. I was severely bullied at beacon, so badly that I’d accumulated a year of counselling and an eating disorder. When I was honest in my counselling, a meeting with what may as well have been the entire world population was held to discuss my “behaviour” and when they call a meeting on your kid and make the kid wait outside for a half hour, it’s to feed you lies, and there will be two of them making it up so you believe it, I can name every teacher that ever drove me to the horrors that were part of my mental health but I am more mature than any of the teachers in that school, despite being 15. I moved houses and therefore schools and have been through so much as a result of beacons negligence toward students mental health and my life has completely changed along with the person I used to be. Do not send your child to this school.
Terrible when you live nearby .packed with traffic coming and going at school times due to rude and ignorant parents parking literally everywhere and using the road as a race track
Brilliant. Beacon has changed so much in the past years. One of my children is still here and the other has now left after sixth form.
The head teachers and their staff have a fantastic work ethic and expectations of the pupils.
Go to one of their open days. You will not be disappointed. The enthusiasm for finding the different tools to teach all of the young brains, all of which are wired differently.
Beacon takes into account that these are young people needing to be involved in their education and giving the pupils space to think and voice their opinions. You will not see a class where teachers lecture/dictate at the children and the children just write it down.
The firsthand support, both with education and personal emotional issues have been handled quickly with care and ongoing structure laid out to keep the children on track.
I cannot fault Beacon and I know I am not alone.
