I went there a couple years ago and I am still appalled by my experience as a year 12 student.
I explained to them that I was retaking my first year because I was bullied at my last school, which led me to have severe social anxiety. This made it very difficult for me to feel comfortable during lessons.
My mum also got very sick during this period, which just made things worse for me. I talked about this with the head and received a lot of support at first, but his words never translated into actions.
There is one particular person that I must mention as I find her behaviour unacceptable: Their sociology teacher. As great and charismatic as she was, she was also very forceful and would put me in really distressing situations on purpose, as she seemed to think my social anxiety would disappear if she forced me to talk in front of my peers during her lessons. It didn’t matter that my mind was blank, my face red, my eyes watery and at the brink of a panic attack– she would not let me go back to my desk until I said something, so the amount of times I cried silently at the back of her class was innumerable. She was aware of my condition as I had already told the head about how her actions made it very hard for me to learn in class or get any points for participation. I even tried to talk to her, but she was very intimidating and wouldn’t let me explain myself. This affected my grades and my self esteem massively. She just didn’t care, so eventually I stopped going to her lessons and instead of reaching out she dropped me out of sociology without talking to me first. I feel for anyone who has her. She could be very rude and didn’t seem to understand that not everyone learns her way. This situation, mixed with my mum’s poor heath and my own mental health became too overwhelming, so I ended up dropping out.
This school is a fantastic school where the teachers care passionately about their students. The pastoral care is really good and the students are supported to do exceptionally well. Academically the school supports each student to improve on their own pathway. They understand that not everyone has access to a quiet place to study and they also put on great and inclusive summer and winter shows. The art department is creative, absorbing and fun. The science, maths and English and languages are also excellent plus they have strong music, drama, pe and dance department. The sixth form is one of the best in Croydon. Do not write this school off.
Our older son came here 3 years ago ,which apart from a few teething problems ,he thoroughly enjoyed. Am now in the process of looking at schools again so will be interesting to see if/how attitudes have changed .
lots of kids trousers are swinging and nothing is done about it then when i bully them i get in trouble doesnt make sense
also some people get in trouble for just existing and no justice is served 🙁
from michael again
The food is veey bad and you WILL get robbed around the school and they will not do anything. The food they serve for lunch is the equivalent to prison food.Prison food is better. Lunch is overpriced for example for a chicken wrap with barley any chicken in it it is PS1.60 and it tastes like shiet
