However the teaching is great and I got good grades so I have to give them that.
The good: teachers I had were fantastic. Mr Lowe, Mr Godfrey, Mrs Walton and Mrs Lowman stand out but all my teachers were absolutely fantastic human beings and constantly gave me positive reinforcement when I didn’t believe in myself, for which I’m so thankful. The people I went to school with were great too, even if I didn’t see eye to eye with everyone. Also, I really feel like I was shaped into me at that school.
The bad: after going to a college for a year, I now realise how authoritarian the rules were. It was oppressive and didn’t harbour creativity. Their facilities were great but the support systems for students being bullied didn’t work and didn’t stop bullying, or even deter it. People getting bullied got bullied further when they reported it. Additionally, regardless of how much the head will say it’s wrong, there’s a definite bias towards caring more about grades than well-being, and even though the teachers don’t try to show that, you can tell they have pressure from higher ups, and that’s absolutely no discredit to the teachers.
Overall, I would never recommend going. But if you do go, advice from an ex-student: focus on your friends and appreciate your teachers. Don’t feel too bad if you’re not where you’re meant to be. I never was and I turned out ok in the end.
