The college was great at first I had to redo my English because I was a few marks of and the teacher Victoria was just rude from the minute me and my friends started and then we went in lockdown where we got predicted grades which made me not pass however every other subject I did great in .. I was struggling with my mental health at this time and the college didn’t help at all infact because of my English they kicked me out bear in mind I no one sat an exam. A few years later this year my sister attended and she has severe mental health and I thought maybe they would have changed but they have not !! This college cares about grades and not about the students who attend . I think they frankly need to go back to teacher training.
Would of given zero stars if possible – DO NOT go to this college if you want to leave it with good mental health I had to drop out after being treated and spoken to like a toddler by a teacher and then being made by the college as if I deserved it and it was my fault – this is disgraceful and has been brought up with the governing educational board. They say they treat all the pupils like adults that is a complete lie they also informed me I couldn’t drop one subject and still do two a levels but other current students have told me since I left people have dropped one a level and are still doing two a levels so again the college has lied and definitely doesn’t treat everyone equally or like adults!!!
Honestly the best decision I could have made to go here, really helpful staff, amazing teachers and so much support available just a message away if you need it. There is subsidised food at good prices available, college dogs to cheer you up and so many extra clubs to meet new people. It’s just a really great place and everyone is so friendly!!
The workload is really balanced too as we have enough free periods a week to complete the homework and/or coursework in without it taking over all of our free time, and the teachers really work hard to prepare you for all upcoming tests and actual exams.
There’s also lot of opportunities to do additional work such as the EPQ, HE+ Project and lots of trips, some of which (like the New York trip 2023) are not subject specific!! The hub, which is a library with computers and extra space to work in, is so useful for catching up on homework within the college day and a great atmosphere for studying quietly.
The tutors offer lots of support with university applications and apprenticeships, while university is the option we are best prepared for by the college there is a special teams group that posts opportunities for apprenticeships and they are in no way discouraged! The tutors really go above and beyond to help you and support you as much as possible, scheduling one on ones to check in each term and are always available for a chat if you need it.
In terms of actual A-Levels, there is a lot of support available from the subject teachers, such as in law we are offered an additional revision session each week to look over material from first year, and in other subjects 1-1 support sessions are available, but it’s very helpful and encourages us to begin our revision early on.
I have loved my time at BSFC so far and would seriously recommend it!!
Very impressed, daughter currently in year 1 and extremely happy and doing well.
Great pastoral care and communication with parents. My child has just got 3 As and I know it was because of the fantastic teaching, encouragement and support offered to students. Would highly recommend.
