I was at the old school between 1970 and 1974 and used to walk home to Nettlehill, on Pond Park Road, an ideal way to have a cigarette or 4 on the way home.
My main memory was being evacuated to the Rugby fields (roughly about where the new school stands) because of a fire and explosions occurring at the gas depot just across the road from the “Teacher’s Entrance”, near the 6th form common room, that led to their car park.
I remember, vividly, Mr. Henry, the Geography teacher who wouldn’t have been out of place in an American baseball team, he could hit your ear with a blackboard ruler thrown from the front of the class to the back! (Where I always sat, because he terrified all of us!)
I often wonder how many of the old pupils are still around, and how they have got on in their lives.
I’m now 62 years old, and would love to make contact with some of them again, but, unfortunately, I am disabled now due to a inoperable trapped nerve in my spine.
Specialist has told me that, should I go back into the theatre again, then I would only have a 5% chance if not being paralysed from the waist down.
Hopefully some will remember me, as I am on Facebook as Al, or Alex Wilson, living in Derby. If any of you reading this do remember me, please drop me a message, it would be really nice to catch up with you.
Thanks
Al
