Not a good school. They keep parents at arms length and I found it challenging to talk to teachers about making improvements for my child. It’s a very academic setting, there is no provision made for the kinaesthetic learner. Very firm and rigid management are unwilling to change and improve or engage with parents. Very traditional and in my eyes, outdated academic institution which is not supportive of creative subjects. During the summer 2021 GCSEs, they did not use the question sets distributed by the government to compensate students for being disadvantaged by the Covid pandemic. Instead they used different questions, which was not in accordance with government guidance. They place undue stress on students with exams and assessments. As a result there are a lot of anxious students with mental health issues.
This place is terrible, the teachers dot care about the students and the workload is terrible. The amount of stress is unbelievable and the 30 mins of homework per subject is more like 2 hours worth each. There’s alot of insensitivey about neurodivergentcy and sensory issues, people with mental health issues get treated badly, the pastoral staff make things worse, a student was once told they were selfish for having an ED as there were starving kids 9n Africa, they also don’t respect pronouns or names.
they put way too much pressure on you with exams. they make you do all your exams in the same week so it’s really hard to get a good revision system. the pastoral care is awful. they tell you to sort out the problem yourself or they give you really bad advice. they don’t tell us when we have a detention and then they get angry at us for not showing up. on non school uniform days they tell us to wear cloths which don’t show our shoulders or mid-drifts or calves which isn’t good for our body confidence. like what is wrong with my shoulders. so yeah
I’ve really lost faith in this school to the point I won’t be sending my younger daughter there for the benefit of her mental health. For a school which has a lot of very talented, articulate young ladies who are anxious perfectionists, they could do a lot by realising that pastoral care lies at the heart of good performance. Unfortunately they care more about reputation and grades, to the point they will happily make life difficult for students displaying more neurodivergent issues rather than address these, and put the many different educational support systems in place to ensure these students have equal access to learning. What is sad is these students are naturally gifted and if channeled correctly would fly with the right support.
The Friday treats are amazing. So is everyone. They always smile. I wish that I did not have to leave this place. Quite annoying with the bells but definitely go in for the 11+ and try out for the school. The clubs are really cool. Don’t be afraid of the teachers because although some of them may be strict – they are so lovely. If you get Mr Southern – Maths – watch out for Gladiator, Legend and Merge.
