it was quite good, but I feel like as time went on the administration got more and more pointlessly draconian, implementing rules that at first glance seem like they would address certain problems, but in reality making little impact on the problem while increasing animosity from the students and generally punishing the whole group for the actions of a few who could have done with proper intervention and help.

At A-level many teachers got along well with and effectively taught the students; it not infrequently felt like the administration and the teachers weren’t in proper communication and the teachers weren’t getting to give input.

The school is drastically underfunded and this has a serious impact on students’ education. The only reason students do well here is because they were already going to at any school – if anything they might have done better at another school. Teachers are often knowledgeable in their subjects but lack the skills to teach it effectively, and students often pay little attention in lessons regardless as they believe they don’t need to.

Many students come from incredibly rich families who could afford tuition / prep schools to pass the entrance exam, but didn’t want the stigma of sending their children to a public school. This gives it a public school-like culture where students often look down on outsiders. This is not helped by the single-gender nature of the school.

Facilities are shockingly poor with most of the main school block unmodified from when it was built in the 1970s. Even newer parts such as the Ashley Thorne building are inadequately designed and quick to wear. Classrooms are in a state of disrepair and resources such as textbooks are scarce or from the previous century.

If you are considering sending your son here, you would do well to consider the effects it would have on him. If you want a well-rounded, conscientious child that enjoys school and sees the benefits of the learning – look elsewhere.

You all certainly make it sound worse than it is. The forced R.P GCSE is in place so that you can learn about other religions and cultures, and so that you can learn philosophy skills you wont learn in any other lesson. It is not there to force you to be Christian or whatever you think. It’s a good school.
This “school” is probably the worst place on Earth. Not only does it smell and force you to do R.P at GCSE, but the teachers are clueless and the headmaster cannot accept criticism, causing him to rant about ofsted nearly giving the school “special measures”. Do not come to this school.
The school is small over hyped and only gets good grades due to the selection process. If you want a better education just try harder in school rather than think it’ll solve all your problems
