i’ve posted here before but there’s more i want to add
i went to this school for three years. i endured three years of traumatising hell at this school. they don’t care about mental health, the teachers who do care aren’t even in pastoral care so they can’t do anything. i was literally bullied by an english teacher at one point but now matter how many times i told people, no one believed me. this is something i still deal with the after effects of today. i also had a teacher who caused me to have panic attacks after he grabbed my arm to make me work after i physically couldn’t. only about 4 good teachers there, two of which have left. reported bullying multiple times and nothing was done about it. was requesting a bridge pass for nearly two years after instructions from camhs and my parents and never received it. worst school. ever.
This school is absolute hell. First of all the food is (mainly from the hot dinner side) is disgusting and not presented well at all, there are flies in the dinner hall, the corridors are WAY too small and the classrooms are all different sizes (some where you could fit a class of 40 maybe 50 and some where you could only have a class of about 10/15 people in. And the staff, there is a lot to say about them. Firstly, the learning leaders say that they will do things and they don’t, the learning leaders also only help people who they want to and do nothing for the others, most teachers put too much pressure on the students and say comments that can be hurtful towards the student considering the fact that they don’t know what is going on in our home lives (for example, one of the French teachers said “well Shannon you look happy to be here” and one of the learning leaders said to me “have you hurt yourself because your smiling”), most of the teachers are way too strict and the teachers definitely use favouritism . Everyone who attends this school thinks it’s a disgrace . The way they deal with bullying is actually unacceptable. Students are told to “just ignore it” when they find it really hard to ignore it .The consequence system never works because a c1,c2,c3 isn’t a big deal and teachers think that c4a,c4b,c5a and c5b will scare the students but they don’t. Many of the teachers have completley unfair seating plans and don’t let the students move when they have completely valid reasons (they feel pressured, a certain mental health problem, being unable to see the board, not being able to get on with ANY work). And a lot of the teachers restrict students from going to the toilet, so I guess the teacher wants to have human waste in their room then. A few teachers let students out late or keep them back after lesson and the student then gets punished for being late to the next lesson. The lines at lunch really bother me. Student have to line up outside until some of the other year group come out of the lunch hall (there is 3 lunches, firsts is year 9s and 11s, second is year 7s so they don’t have to deal with this problem and last lunch is year 8s and year 10s) so when by the time the people who lined up outside go in, this is almost no food left. This also gives the year group who had to line up outside no time to eat, we also get told that if we needed the toilet then we should have gone at lunch when people had to line up outside for 5-10 minutes, then line up inside for 5 minutes, then eat there food which takes up the rest of the half an hour ( well 25 minutes because we all have to line up 5 Minutes before the end of lunch). People get bullied by teachers and they also get bullied for being friends with someone who is in a different year group than them (two of my best friends are in year 7/11). Teachers tell students off for the stupidest reasons aswell like being late BECAUSE OF A BUS THAT THEY CANT CONTROL, wearing makeup, wearing “innapropraite” shoes, wearing coats inside, wearing jewellery, wearing brightly coloured socks (how are they supposed to stop or alter our learning), eating in lessons, going on the grass (why do we have a field in the first place if we’re not allowed on it) and various other idiotic reasons . So just a word of advice, if this is your or your child’s preferred/chosen secondary school, then change it now as it is a really non enjoyable and unfair experience
How Ofsted rated it as “outstanding” in 2018 is beyond my comprehension. The academy staff use a behaviour management system which is highly negative and results in poor relations between both staff and students. Behaviour in the school is appalling and expectations are low for academic achievement. If you care about your child at all, find them almost any other school. Parents that do complain are treated much like the children. My heart genuinely goes out to the poor teachers that work there, seriously just leave it’s not worth it.
I personally don’t understand why anyone goes to this school, a lot of the teachers just don’t make their logic understandable. You can get into trouble pretty easily, even for breathing (trust me). And don’t get me started on the punishments. The “Isolation” is just sitting in a room, doing absolutely NOTHING, for 7 hours straight. If that isn’t dumb, I don’t know what is. Would not recommend to anyone, it’s probably worse than Alletonshire. Most students here would probably agree with me to be fair. Before I forget, the school’s motto: “students first” is a tremendous lie, it’s the real life equivalent to clickbait.
i finished at this school today, it used to be really good, then miss trattles came along, and then it got better with mr Pratt. most of the teachers are really nice, but thers some, who are mean and really not nice. for example, i told a teacher i was partly deaf, they laughed and called me jeff. overall, its decent but then theres the few who really arent good.
