My lad only went here for just shy of 1 term, in Reception class (as we moved away from the area). During this time he was made to feel welcome (he knew no-one here as he came from a nursery in a different area, but the catchment school was outside that area), the teachers were really good at helping him excel. I was dubious about the school being so large, having gone to a small village school myself, and thought he would get lost amidst the large numbers. However the large numbers meant there was significant teacher support, in that classes were split into abilities for Maths and Literacy, and he was in the top sets for each! He did very well in his short time here, really came along well, and actually I was quite sad despite my initial reservations, that he didn’t get to at least finish the year here. Well done to the staff, the school certainly lived up to its reputation (I had heard a lot of good things about the Infant school to be fair, even before my son went here!) At the time there was only a breakfast club and no after school club, which makes it a nightmare for working parents, but they were able to organise my son going to the Junior schools after school and holiday job, which was so helpful as we couldn’t have juggled our hours without their support (and actually it was quite stressful worrying about what we were going to do about school with no support from the local council with before and after school clubs, and his nursery not offering school drop off here as it was out of their catchment area).
A happy beginning to education.
