One of my favorite things about living in the Lowcountry has been that my daughter has gone to Ashley Hall. She started there in kindergarten, and is now in eleventh grade. The academics are challenging but she has rarely felt overwhelmed, because the teachers are so talented, dedicated and supportive. The school also offers a wide range of athletic, artistic, and travel opportunities, so the girls can pursue many interests within their nurturing community. Ashley Hall has provided my daughter an excellent education that will prepare her well for college and for the rest of her life. I am very grateful for that.
Great in terms of academics, however as a young black girl attending the school, I felt underrepresented and uncomfortable to a certain extent. Certain kids would tell me my hair was as rough as a rug and comment on my skin tone. When I reported it to my teachers, they said ‘I should try belending in more’. 5/5 for academics, but I would not recommend this school for young girls of color.
best school ever
