When my family and I were first looking into daycare facilities in the area, we were thrilled to find Cane Bay Academy. The facility is clean, very nice, and the directors are very welcoming. Over the course of a few years, we started noticing that the older classrooms were out of ratio (1/13) on a regular basis. There would be 15-20 children in a room with one teacher.
Later, the facility closed for a hurricane. There were still $80 charges for the week when no teachers, directors, or others were working. My child did not attend that week nor did anyone else’s children. When I expressed my concerns over paying for services that were not rendered (daycare is not cheap), I was told that if I’m not happy then I should find another care provider. So we did.
There are times when substitute teachers do not request identification from people picking up and then release children to guardians that they’ve never met. We verbally mentioned this as well. Information on daily papers that came home were also not accurate (child was marked eating 3/4 of lunch, when none was eaten at all).
This dependent care provider does have good teachers and they work hard. We just felt like that we were later on treated as a “family that was paying for a daycare spot” as opposed to our concerns and suggestions being carefully considered for improvement.
