The communication to the students and the parents suck, always short notice or no notice. They don’t prepare the students with success information on moving on to college, if they do, it’s short notice and it’s limited to a handful amount of students, if they get the info on time. They should be preparing seniors and even down to the Junior’s for college and give them so much info on how to apply for grants, and everything under the sun…the staff are in the education business, so why isn’t anyone at this public school making this a priority for students that their parents can’t afford private school tuition? They let the parents reinvent the wheel for all college info from applications to grants when they can setup a system and make it part of a portion in a class or make it separate and have this after school hours or just something where students and parents can go to and get the straight help for our kids to succeed. So if this is your oldest kid, guess what…you won’t get that much help from anyone at KHS or their counselors…they really suck!!! This information I’m writing is not only from my kid, it’s more kids….and they are in the 4.0 GPA…so I’m subject to believe more then 3 of them saying the same thing about not only this, but in just about everything…school dances, signing up for activities…it’s so ridiculously frustrating. my kid is in the Medical career path…still haven’t gotten their smock for business day since they started and elected their career path and he’s a senior?! Sad. I think they need to form a committee and go to high schools and even private schools and learn and get educated on how and why their schools have awesome programs and their schools score high…why reinvent the wheel? why work harder and not smarter??? Get off their chairs and go to other schools? you would think all public schools should all be the same, have the same process and programs and not have each public schools run differently according to the staff running that particular school? how insane is that??? if this is the case then we should automatically be approved to transfer to another school…and then parents have to figure out how to get them to that school…so it’s just junk all around…every school should be the same!!!
If I could put NO stars it would have been done. My son was into self help (Tony Robbins, Les Brown, etc.) and enjoyed reading about how to better himself. He literally had teachers telling him he was a loser for doing that.
There was no help from teachers, When students asked a question to help them understand, the teacher quickly dismissed the question and said do your assignment. It seemed much more evident the paycheck was the reason they appeared everyday, not the students.
Many students from different graduating years have told me the students are very into themselves, shallow, and immature. Not to mention the mentality.
I would HIGHLY recommend Moanalua High School. The programs, teachers and students are up to par and students state they don’t get messed with by punks in the hall since everyone there is more focused on actually learning and doing school.
Low standards for Kapolei.
If you don’t care about your kids education or your kid wants to just have a lame social life, let them go to this school.
Otherwise look elsewhere. Period. VERY VERY dissatisfied.
The school is great, especially the programs like JROTC. The school has study hall for students who need help with their studies, it is always open for students except Wednesdays. The school has great activities, and there are so many fun things to do at this school, especially if you’re involved in programs, sports, honors, band or student government. Don’t worry about the students, only focus on the classes and the good things that can help your child succeed in high school. There are over 8 buildings including the portables. There are 4 main buildings for the freshman’s to the seniors, and the gym. there are over 6 portables and a wood shop nearby. Kapolei high school is the biggest school in Oahu and has the best JROTC (Marine Corps) in the entire nation. I highly recommend this school.
