This school is so terrible. I enrolled in the part time evening vocational nursing program and just getting into the program was a huge hassle. The school refused to give us our weekly schedule until the week of classes which is a huge inconvenience for people that are attending school while working jobs to support themselves. Unitek also falsely advertises that you can attend with a friend, and when I tried to attend the same semester as someone, the program director and the counselor called me and said that I should be “doing this for myself” and that I shouldn’t have expectations to attend with someone even though the offer was advertised on their website. I had to move my enrollment date once to the next semester because I had to get a necessary surgery, and when I informed the program director, she called me and tried to force me into telling her what the surgery was for. This was a huge violation of my privacy, and when I didn’t want to tell her what the surgery was for she became angry. Once I was able to start my program, I became even more frustrated with Unitek. The part time evening vocational nursing program is a complete joke, the teachers, Ms. Pascaul and Ms. Soheli were impossible to understand and taught us material that was never on the quizzes. They read us useless material weekly and then quizzed us on difficult concepts which caused 6 students to drop the course within 2 weeks. The teachers would sometimes make us look over the class powerpoint and then teach the material to the class ourselves so they wouldn’t have to do anything. We also spent a week of class time learning “proper hand washing” which is something they could have taught us within a couple of hours so that we could have saved valuable class time. A few of us even reached out to the program director and other leaders at the school but no one wanted to help us. Now I am paying off $4000 just for attending the school for a month before dropping the course since they refused to let me turn in my textbooks, uniform, and other materials so that they could keep the money. Please read the bad reviews and pick a different school to attend so you can save your money!! The 5 star reviews are all fake.
This Unitek College in Sacramento has the worst advisors. The communication is poor, and uncertain. Stephanie was my advisor, I had talked to her about trying to get into the BSN program at Unitek, because of having all the requirements done (pre-requisites and associates degree). She was not interested in providing me with further details as she stated: This program only prioritizes our current students, it would be very challenging for you to join it. Then, I asked: why even bother posting the advertisement online? She further explained, that I wouldnt be priority, only prior LVN students that have attended Unitek. She didnt sound very helpful to me, then she went on asking me to take a test. I ended up taking the test that they provided and never heard back from no one. Had to call a few times, but no one was available to talk to me. I havent heard anything back from the advisor since January.
If youre looking to get a jump start on a private school like this one, make sure you do your research. As you know, you wouldnt be priority unless youve attending this school. The overall price for the RN program is 100 thousand dollars, and if you decide to do the LVN like they suggest, youre looking at 150 thousand dollars in student loans.
I would now like to review my experience with the school. At Unitek, you really get what you put in. You have to be motivated and ambitious in order to succeed. In nursing and in life in general theres always going to be something or someone you dont like but the way you react to those situations is what makes you the person you are today. I would highly recommend this school to anyone who is determined to get their nursing degree. Its not easy but its possible as long as you bring a positive mindset and you put in the effort. I would like to say that Ms. Morton the program director was extremely helpful throughout the program and always came to us in person to address our concerns, she is a great asset to the campus. And remember most of the time people leave negative reviews and experiences but a lot of people who are happy and recommend this school will not leave a review at all. I was scared at first to do the program because of the negative reviews but I would advise to not listen to negativity because if you truly want it, you will get it !!!
