All three of my children go here and I cannot say enough great things about the teachers, the administration, and the parent community. The teachers are OUTSTANDING – two teachers to every lower grade classroom means a better learning environment for your child. The co-teaching method is unique to this school and allows your child to be taught in an intense, individualized manner – instead of just one teacher disciplining and trying to corral all day. The administration has a clear vision and well vested in the success of our students – as all their own go here as well. The parent community is very welcoming, but you have to do your own part to get out and meet others as well. Once you do, these people would do anything to help you out. I also love the fact that there are off-duty police officers who walk the grounds and man the front door. We feel our children are safe here, and getting a top-notch education as well as a strong Christian foundation that ensures their success in the future.
The teaching staff is cold and not authentic… I had a conflict with them during the summer camp regarding the quality of masks for my kids .. which grew into a special attitude towards my children from most of the teachers during the school year. While we paid for almost entire school year and the afterschool activities, we had to transfer our children in the middle of the school year to another school. When we sent “Thank you” letter to the class teachers, they did not respond to our letter of gratitude for teaching our kids for these half a year at school. Still waiting for 2 months for them to return the money at least for the paid after-school program that my children did not attend. I would not apply to this school if you are not of Catholic faith, understandably, you will not fit well with the culture.
We have been fortunate to be part of the ICSJ community since our son (now in grade 7) entered in Kindergarten.
Love the teaching model (co-teaching), the awesome teachers, the focus on faith and values, extracurricular activities, and the way in which families connect to build a community.
Most importantly, ICSJ focused on social-emotional learning and prepare the graduates for the most selective high schools in Chicago.
If you are considering a school for your child entering in Kindegarten or look to make a move to a new school, ICSJ should be on top of that list.
