On April 29th, my 13 year old daughter, on just her 3rd day of school, was brutally assaulted by a martial arts instructor at the school two days after she and my 15 year old daughter reported to the principal that they witnessed the martial arts instructor full-on punch three terrified students in the chest.

Our daughter weighs 100 pounds. For 30 minutes, Mr. Anderson brutally demonstrated jiu jitsu on our daughter. He submitted her repeatedly with arm bars and chokeholds in front of the class, repeatedly threw her down onto the ground, and used sheer force to humiliate her over and over and over again.

When it was said and done, both elbows, both shoulders, both legs, and her back were so sore she could hardly walk. She wears braces on her teeth and had half a dozen cuts in her mouth and spit up blood for an hour. A full week later, she is still sore and injured from the assault.

My wife was hired as a teacher there. Before the assault of our daughter happened, my wife reported to the principle, Mr. Arispe, that students were being punched painfully in the chest by an instructor. He admitted that other parents had complained before.

When we reported to the principle that our daughter was severely injured by the instructor, the principle did nothing. He asked my wife and kids not to come back while they looked into it. 2 days later, via an email, the principle fired my wife and asked our family not to come back to the school.

We had 4 kids attending here. The whole family was devastated and perplexed.

We are now moving forward with litigation against the school. Several additional families have told us they are pulling their children and will not be attending the SAE School in the future because of this and because of such egregiously poor mismanagement.

This is one of the most traumatic moments ever for our entire family. Please, if you are considering the SAE School, look elsewhere. It is a dangerous, poorly managed environment.

I could not be happier with our experience at SAE. My son was attending Kindergarten at Woodward Academy and we did not have a good experience. I was referred to SAE from another parent and I reached out to Jimmy directly to discuss my challenges. He took time out of his day (when I basically cold called him) to talk with me and showed genuine concern for our situation, offered advice, and welcomed us for a tour and shadow day. Needless to say after spending time at the school, I pulled my 6 year old out of Kindergarten half way through the school year and immediately enrolled him into SAE. The non- traditional approach they take to educating our children through project based learning has re-energized my son who now is excited about going to school and learning. The individual, customized attention they have taken to understand the best way to teach MY child will undoubtedly assist in his educational growth, and the feeling of “community” through the special events they host really makes me, as a parent, feel like I am part of the journey as well. I would highly recommend anyone who is interested and open to a new approach to learning come and visit SAE.
This school breaks all stereotypes….and I love it. Teachers accelerate or slow down the curriculum based on how the kids are grasping the content, administration is nimble with schedule and program changes, and communication between parents/teachers/administration is fantastic. I didn’t know much about schools until I needed one. Based on my friend’s experiences at their kids school, I have zero doubt that my kids are in the right place! Also, my 2nd grader told me to never pick her up early because she loves it there so much. I mean c’mon!
