I worked for Potter as Head Secretary for nearly 7 years, now my granddaughter attends there. I have been gone starting this school year. The Principal, Academic Engagement Officer, Teachers, Staff and Support Staff care about the students and pride themselves on being Teachers that can instruct, encourage kids to learn and control their classrooms.Your neighborhood school has the strength you give it! Support your student by coming to Board Meetings, Parent -Teacher Conferences, making sure your student rest, eat well and complete their homework neatly, timely and correctly. Keep your contact information current and do not make excuses for your child’s bad rude behavior! Education is not a competition between Parents and Teachers for control, but a Partnership to ensure that your child gets the best humanly possible education from Teachers and Parents are well informed and make sure their little darling is behaving. Potter welcomes Parent participation and welcomes suggestions and ideas. As the School’s Secretary, I busted my back making sure Students were safe, fed, clean, Parents had the resources needed as well as my clerical duties. I loved that job!,but now I getting to old for the pace, so a younger woman has it. If you do not like Potter, then perhaps Potter is not the real problem!
I had to have my son transferred here when his school closed down. for the close proximity and because i thought this school would be better then Doyle. Well I was wrong. My Son was bullied for 3 months and i was notified by being told after it was resolved. I sat in the classroom (my son was in kindergarten) and at the end of the day immediately pulled my son out in fear for his and even my own safety. The kids were allowed to run around in and out of the classroom, out into the hallways, They children were running across counters and Easels!!! I had chairs thrown at me! They have moved children who are supposed to be in special ed into regular classrooms with one teacher “making rounds” to visit the students. I should have trusted my friend when she told me about how her son was treated! I was also told my son is doing great in math then he ended up with the lowest grade! The classroom atmosphere had my son acting like he was 3 again with spitting and pulling hair. Absolute Chaos and safety issues! I was afraid my son would just walk right out the school with his friends and they would never know! U dont just “lose” children! I am keeping my son at home even if i have to wait til next year or homeschool! safety first! (reviewed 2013)
I’ve worked as a learning guide through the Flint Chamber of Commerce at Potter Elementary. My experience with the children was nonetheless than exceptional. The children were so eager to learn and so happy to be around one another. Everyday I looked forward to coming to work. I would describe the experience as by far one of my favorite jobs and the children played a major roll in making my participation as a learning guide remarkable.
