We are an international family with two children who moved to New York in 2013. For the past 10 years we have been at GISNY our kids have received an excellent education from motivated, experienced teachers. We have been impressed with the school’s transition from an “expat” to an International school, its handling of the Covid pandemic, its continuous efforts to meet the needs of all its students and its willingness to listen to the various demands of its parents, all while delivering a high quality, rigorous and challenging education. But GISNY has been more than just a great school for our kids, it is a welcoming home away from home, also for us parents.

Our family moved back to London at the end of 2023. Our son will complete his last 2 years of Gymnasium at a boarding school in Germany and our daughter choose to entered the British school system. They have both adjusted quickly to their new environments and easily made new friends. Both have been praised for their independent working skills, attitude to learning, active participation in classroom discussions and ‘out of the box’ contributions. GISNY has provided them with an excellent educational foundation, a flexible approach to whatever life may throw at you and the attitude to embrace new people and places with an open mind and heart. It’s when you leave that you truly appreciate what a special place GISNY is and it will forever hold a place in our hearts.

Our son attends GISNY since Pre-K and is now in 8th grade. We love the bilingual education and the ability for our son to choose at some stage where he wants to study as GISNY graduates earn both a NY State High School Diploma and the German International Abitur. The German International Abitur allows the graduates to apply to excellent universities around the world.- Germany, US, UK etc.
Over the last years the school has invested into new facilities and is in the process to add a new science wing. In the past year we have been particularly impressed with the Covid-19 response and the swift switch to remote learning in spring 2020 when all the schools had to close. The students received continued high-level education and had a structured school day. Since the beginning of the new school year 2020/21 the school is doing everything to keep the school open and safe.
Bilingualism, internationalism, STEM and private, tailored teaching makes for great outcomes! All 3 of my kids went to this school from the ground up, my oldest daughter graduated in 2020, got a scholarship to study biochemistry at a top university. All 3 are not just perfectly bilingual plus some decent Spanish & French but put me to shame in math and sciences (I went to a regular US high school). This school shines even among top private NYSAIS schools for it’s math & sciences. From Kindergarten on they model good behaviors and teach self-discipline, respect, tolerance & critical thinking that set up the kids for long-term success. We were lucky to have this school as an option, it is a differentiator, we can see how our daughter has a competitive edge. Thank you to this school and it’s great staff and teachers!
