Awful. I graduated there in the early 90’s. A pervert teacher tried to kiss one of my 16 year old friends. My friend told another teacher, who happened to be the mother of another one of our friends. Anyway, the teacher/mother told my friend not to say anything. So I assume pervert teacher just went along teaching and trying to kiss his teen students. The teachers are very racist. A very dark skinned Latino friend of mine had dreams of going to Cal Poly. Our Spanish teacher’s son was rejected from Cal Poly when he applied for admission. The Spanish teacher openly blamed Affirmative Action for her son not being accepted to Cal Poly. She openly said, “And a minority kid with lesser grades gets the spot. And IS THAT FAIR?” Then she turned her neck quickly and stared crazy eyed at my dark skinned Latino friend. For one thing, the Spanish teacher didn’t even know the correct definition of Affirmative Action. But then to look my dark skinned friend in the eye as if it was his fault, that’s just awful. I always noticed the Latino boys were punished much more harshly than the white kids. If a white boy wandered the halls or disobeyed rules then he was chastised with a smile. If a Mexican boy did something he was immediately reprimanded to the highest extent. The teachers were rather sexist too. I remember there was this strange boy who sat behind me in a class. Let’s just say he’d openly show his teen boy attraction towards me when I wasn’t looking. The teacher was convinced that I was in on it. He thought the boy and I had some game going on, like the type of role play game that bored married couples do (ewe). The teacher was convinced that I was nice to the boy before class because we were this freaky teen couple. He even called in a counselor with an MFT to “get the truth”. And the truth was I was just a 15 girl who was being nice to my classmate because I had no reason to be mean. And the truth was that I really didn’t know what this boy was up to and it would be another 20 years before I understood how 16 yr. old boys could think and act in such a lewd manner. But this teacher had me pegged as some 15 year old kinky tease from a bad 80’s movie. This whole thing went on for like 2 months and an MFT’s professional opinion before this teacher would accept I was innocent. But here is the big issues: why was this teacher focused on my behavior when all of this activity was literally done behind my back? why didn’t this teacher focus on the boy who was committing the lewd acts? why wasn’t he was sent to talk to the MFT when the whole thing first began? I can only assume that because I was a Latina girl that this white teacher assumed I was purposefully arousing my classmate. You know, like the stereotype of the Latina always hot and ready. The entire school was just off. I’m still disturbed by the memories I have of that place. It got so bad there that by 11th grade I wanted to drop out. I loved learning, and I loved reading, but this place was getting to me and just upsetting me all the time. I ended up graduating, but I had to do what psychologists call “compartmentalizing” in order to cope. I would just shut my feelings off. If I hadn’t shut my feelings off at this school I never could have made it through.
I graduated Fresno High in 2011. I really enjoyed this school and would send my future kids. Fresno High may or may not have been a good school in the past but that was then this is now. The teachers are great and the students are great. There are many different clubs or programs you can get into. I was part of a program called GAB (Global Academy of Business) which i really enjoyed. I was able to travel to different places and compete with other schools in business.
Graduated from Fresno High in 1970. It was one of the best times of my life. And I learned a little also. Now I live in Frankfort, Ky. The state where I was born and raised in a little town called Georgetown. Better known for the location of Toyota of North America. Home of the Camry, among other vehicles. Would like to make a return visit to Fresno soon!
