My kindergartener had a student bring knives and tape to his classroom with the intentions of taping another student up and killing him/her with knives. Luckily, my son was the first to see the knives and tapes and notified the teachers immediately about what was happening, preventing any additional physical and emotional damage to be done. I WAS NEVER MADE AWARE OF WHAT HAPPENED BY THE SCHOOL! After piecing together the story, my then 4 year old, came home with, I immediately contacted the school and was given little to no information, just informed that the students are safe and that the student involved was expelled from the school.
Not being satisfied, as my son was then crying everyday begging me not to make him go to school in fear of being stabbed by knives, I met with Mrs. Sipple, the assistant principal. After 2 hours of going rounds with her about what took place, the importance of contacting parents and keeping us informed so that we can have difficult conversations with our kids and start the healing process, she disagreed and stated that it would have cut into her family time (as the incident occurred on a Friday) over the weekend answering unnecessary phone calls and the situations escalating to more than it actually was. I asked if she would be willing to sacrifice a handful of students emotional well being that were involved to save herself possibly 15 unnecessary phone calls from parents of students not directly involved. She answered YES.
The police were never contacted about the incident, even though they legally should have as it was a threat with a deadly weapon. When I emailed Mrs. Sipple about the police being involved, she simply did not reply to my email. What else is this school hiding?
As far as the staff, amazing. My son had an amazing teacher, assistant teacher, and replacement teacher (after the incident occurred, his original kinder teacher left the school). They are kind, caring, extremely involved, and have a deep love for the students and their job!
If you have zero tolerance for bullying this is not the school for you child. Even when your child repeatedly reports it they won’t help. If you report it they tell you they can’t check things out after the fact even though your child told the teachers. My child had six kids in her class verbally and physically bullying her every day and they told me it was just too much to be true. After me reporting the issues daily to the assistant principal she told me I could no longer email about any issues and then told me that this school probably isn’t the right fit. My child doesn’t want to fight but was forced to do so because they want your child to advocate for themselves. Also she was hurt by bully in gym class while two gym teachers where there but they were both looking at a computer instead of supervising the class. They also told the kids not to cry or complain if you get hurt in gym. Office staff look to be friendly and caring. At recess the teachers are talking to each other and on their phones not watching the kids. The two teachers we had were not apparently able to help a child with Tourette’s, OCD, HDAD. Her teacher taped a kids mouth shut and had them sit facing the class. This is not what second grade kids need to see from the person they are supposed to learn from.
We are absolutely loving this school for our 9th grader. Each child & parent(s) have an interview with the Principal (or assistant principal) so they know each and every family. The school operates sort of like a family (you hear all the staff say that and I’ve seen no evidence to the contrary). They are very community oriented and have community vents outside of school regularly. Our son is on the football team & they have been great about welcoming him in & making him feel like he is part of the community from the get-go. Furthermore we are a Love & Logic family so to find a school that practices this & does not use punitive measures for discipline- but rather enforces natural consequences, is a breath of fresh air!

There’s always place every community can improve but overall we feel like, so far at least, this school has been such a blessing to find!! We have been very methodical about the schools he has attended so this review isn’t written with anything but from a place of authenticity & levelheadedness.
