Warning: this institution is where a passion for learning goes to die.

A few years ago I gave a god review of the school but after having my son here for several grades I can more accurately comment.

1) they cannot hold onto faculty and staff. Teacher turnover is high. Last year my son had 2 science teachers and 3 English teachers. I’ve lost track of the gym teachers that come and go.

2) they are unnecessarily strict and often inconsistent in their discipline practices. They have a walk and talk and that’s the only time the kids are given for social interaction with their peers. They can’t talk in the hallways and often they are punished with silent lunches. The atmosphere is miserable, like military school or reform school.

3) they are not enough electives and clubs. The kids don’t have any options for learning for pleasure, developing passions, or broadening their skills. It’s all math, science, English, and memorize this to regurgitate later.

4) the entire last quarter of the school year is spent test prepping for the EOG’s because I guess the school’s funding is tied into the test scores. The kids are drilled mercilessly to prepare for these tests.

5) the environment is hostile to young boys. Boys are repeatedly targeted for punishment for their normal boy behavior because the teachers do not have the time, patience, or training to properly teach to a boy’s needs for learning. They also expect all children (even the ones with diagnosed learning hindrances) to learn and behave in the same manner.

6) this school wants fact spewing robots, not thriving intellectually curious students.

I, like others, loved this school to begin with when my boys started a couple of years ago. It was a refreshing break from the public school norm that we were used to. Well, after a few years there, I cannot wait to get them back into the public school setting. They will most likely struggle at first with public school because Langtree is a sham, and has done nothing to prepare them for the rigors of all of the assessments and testing in the public school setting. It has declined significantly over the years. They can’t keep most teachers for more than a year (some don’t even last the entire year). Both of my boys, have had multiple teachers within the same year at one point or another. Because of this situation, they let the current teachers do what they please in order to keep them from leaving. My boys watch more tv/movies in their classrooms than actual schoolwork. And I don’t mean movie clips, I mean full-length movies to keep them occupied and entertained. It’s a sad, sad “learning” environment to say the least. The administration is a joke, and mostly made up of “yes” men and “yes” women who cater to political correctness, rather than good moral and ethical character. They certainly do not have the children’s best interests, education, or safety at heart. There are reviews from parents who are fairly new and rave about the school and the administration. I’m eager to see how their reviews change once they see just how disorganized and disappointing Langtree truly is.
“Langtree Charter is a place where children are valued and protected in order that a healthy learning environment is created. A learning environment where children feel secure allows teachers to bring out their very best. I teach at Langtree and I love this school community. My children also attend and love school very much. I’m grateful to be a part the Langtree community where mutual care and respect are truly commonplace. You will not regret sending your children to Langtree. They will feel safe and be cared for each and every day as we help them grow in all areas of learning.”
