My son was failing in the public school system. He had an IEP , to the school it meant to give him easy useless courses and pass him along with D’s. In the beginning of his sophomore year, we pulled him out of the public school system. He was behind in math, English, and had difficulty reading. We enrolled him at Futures. He struggled during his first year at Futures as he was taking college prep courses. We ended up having to repeat most of his freshman year courses. Futures teachers and administrators provided support. They offered guided study. The coordinator of guided study worked with him and taught him how to study and how to research topics for assignment papers. I am so very thankful to Futures. Devon is now getting mostly A’s in college prep courses. Devon made friends at school for the first time. He is in Student Council. During Covid 19, they provided one to one online classes, tutoring and guided study.and drop in online math and science to provide help.
The cost of the program was very hard on us but worth every penny.
Our son entered Halstrom mid-way through his freshman year. He started out at our district high school, but there were academic and social challenges that made it impossible for him to succeed there, in spite of an IEP and extra support. He left with failing grades and overwhelming stress.

He’s now a senior, on track to graduate with his peers, because he moved to Halstrom. He has thrived under the one-teacher-to-one-student model. His teachers approach the material in a way that works for him, and engage in discussions rather than lecture. Additionally, the small student body creates a warmer, more accepting environment where he feels comfortable.

Our experience with teachers and staff has been excellent. They make themselves available to us for questions and updates, and have been very flexible regarding our scheduling requests. On the very few occasions when we’ve had a concern, they have been responsive and professional.

For us, Halstrom has been the right fit. It’s hard to imagine our son doing better at another school.

My son attended Futures over the summer to make up some classes that he struggled with in his first year of public high school. I can say that hands down Futures has been a truly amazing experience.

We really appreciated the individualized education that our son received there. He struggles with anxiety and the experience at Futures was eye opening. I (and he) realize now that he can access his education given the right environment, with teachers that truly care and curriculum tailored to his particular learning style.

He has made huge gains in his learning and retention of material as well as becoming more self-reliant. He has mastered most of what he learned versus what he gets in a traditional classroom with 25+ kids. I feel like he’s done quite a bit of growing up in the last 2 months while attending Futures also! What really matters is that they do not have a “one size fits all” program and it really has made a difference in our son’s life!
