I am writing to express my concerns regarding the services provided for nonverbal children at your school. As a parent/guardian of a nonverbal child enrolled in your program, I believe it is crucial to address several areas that require improvement:

1. Communication Accessibility: The communication methods and tools provided for nonverbal children seem limited and not tailored to individual needs. More comprehensive and personalized communication options, such as augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices, should be made available.
2. Specialized Training: It appears that some staff members lack sufficient training and expertise in effectively communicating and interacting with nonverbal children. Additional training programs focusing on AAC devices, sign language, and understanding nonverbal cues would greatly benefit both staff and students.
3. Inclusive Curriculum: The curriculum does not seem to adequately incorporate strategies for supporting nonverbal children in all learning environments. There should be a strong emphasis on inclusive practices that promote participation and engagement for all students, regardless of their communication abilities.
4. Parental Involvement: There is a need for improved communication and collaboration between the school and parents/guardians of nonverbal children. Regular updates, workshops, and resources should be provided to empower families in supporting their child’s communication and educational needs.

I urge the school administration to prioritize these concerns and take proactive steps to enhance the services and support provided to nonverbal children. Every child deserves an inclusive and empowering educational experience, and I believe these improvements are essential for achieving that goal.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely, Angela

My son previously went here before he was transferred -but Fairhaven I would say is an okay school for kiddos with special needs. Staff was great around kids, no weird interactions everytime I spoke to someone, but the only issue I have with this school is their staffing. They’ve recently hired someone this year to their staff, who actively does drugs, especially around the kids most likely. I’ve seen her at the dispensary going to buy whatever she needs, but I don’t want someone who does marijuana on the job, and she probably even still does hard drugs around my child. We’ll call her, “Savannah”. Savannah is also a horrible person who has a bad reputation here in Mundelein, she is well known for all the wrong reasons. She also bullied me in high school to the point where I attempted suicide unfortunately, and had to get hospitalized for a month almost. And she has no remorse or guilt for anything she’d done to me. So if someone like her, is working with these kiddos who can’t advocate for themselves, I would like to be the person that advocates for them – FIRE THIS STAFF MEMBER to ensure a safe, educational environment for these kids who need supportive, educated, and reliable staff.
My autistic son attended 2years ago. Was a glorified daycare center and a terrible experience for him.

Multiple times we caught them pre-filling out his activity sheets (we would pick him up in the morning and they already had the afternoon filled out). When we voiced our concerns to the principal it was basically just hand-waved and all our concerns were denied.
When we mentioned we were thinking of pulling him the principal didn’t even ask why, basically gave us the impression of “don’t let the door hit you on the way out”.

Terrible communication.

Hopefully they got their act together within the past 2 years.
