the teachers here are supportive and definitely very nice but its just the school structure that pulls my review down. I am currently a 8th grader- definitely excited to graduate and the good side is that they offer the regents. The us history regents, the earth science regents, and the foreign language regents ( we are doing spanish proficiently). but the bad side about it is that they are definitely very disorganized. one day, you turn lets say a permission slip or a late homework… sometimes they would lose it ( it happened to me a couple of times already) or just take a very long time to update it on Jupiter Ed. its definitely your choice if you want to come or not but the staircase going down to lunch or going back up after recess is filled with tremendous amounts of students from manhattan east and there is only a limit of one staircase or two, sometimes. During transition (class transition) it is veryyy packed with people. Also another issue that comes up is the schools equipments. sometimes the air conditioner wouldnt work and it veryyyy hot in the classroom or the heater occassionally dosent work. I mean, you cant blame them it is indeed a very old building. we dont even have a elevator just stairs. but the positive sides is that you make friends, bestfriends, and special bonds that last a lifetime and the teachers do make the lessons interesting by class discussions, group work, and watching videos, playing spanish jeopardy and reading very good books in ELA. in 6th grade one of the books we read was “Hatchet”, “Walk Two Moons”. In 7th grade we read “A wrinkle in time”, “the giver”, “Of mice and men”Now in 8th grade some of the books are “The Hunger Games”, “The Fault In Our Stars”, “Hotel on the corner of bitter and sweet”. Know that we read more books thanthese of cousrse. these are just the highlights of what we read. Also the math teachers ms. barnes and ms. kaplowitz are very nice and strict but funny and make learning fun. mr. scanlon is always helping and hes the earth science teacher and he’s always telling us to think about the future and support us so we can have a good life….
The majority of the staffs are so welcoming and i hope you have a great time here if you do decide to come!!!!!
this was an excellent experience for me. this is a good school, perfect for your kids. but you have to watch out for what students your kid is hanging around with. i rate this a 4 star because this one teacher was very racists to students and they know it. so if your kid comes up to you and says “this teacher was being mean to me/racists” don’t say i didn’t warn ya. but based on the education wise, it is hard at first when you are new or starting your first year here, because it is an accelerated school but you will start getting used to it. the respect is okay but if you are disrespectful don’t expect a kind respond or like they aren’t going to do anything. if anything i learned to stay focused even if it was hard to because when regents comes that’s when your whole LIFE CHANGES.. some teachers aren’t bad. if you have ms. Barnes for math she is strict on helping you pass, you just gotta do the work. she is very nice but just know shes not a liar and she will tell you the truth at all times. Mr. Duffy is a good ELA teacher, he will help on improving your reading and writing,he has helped me improve a lot. if you read my essays from 6th grade to now (8th) you will see a BIG change. ms. arias was the best Spanish teacher, everyone loved her. she is super nice and will help you understand what ever it is you need. these are just the top 3 teachers i like. i didn’t have Spanish for 2 years because they either get fired or they will quit cause on how bad we was. but i cant wait to graduate and pass this regents. there is no uniform but must not wear inappropriate clothes. but yea this is what you should know about Manhattan east
I feel like they are very discrimination and has alot of favoritism they don’t give your child a chance! The beginning of the year how do u tell someones child that they nobody wants them in they class BRYAN MARCY its rude n u want respect but are tslking to people kids like this! I swear i should take this to the board of education because it’s really nonsense IM HAPPY THIS IS HER LAST YEAR I HOPE IT GOES FAST WORST SCHOOL N TEACHER THEY ARE NOT willing to work with kids and that’s their job to deal with kids
