Zoom learning was a great opportunity to see what happens in the classroom. The teachers my daughter had obviously favored some of the boys in the class and constantly showed only negative or apathetic attention toward my daughter. There was no patience for the fact the 5 year olds were learning to navigate a laptop and track pad(and also that their muscles are getting strong enough to press and scroll at the same time), her teacher very often lost her temper with kids not unmuting themselves fast enough. I tried to tell her how to pronounce my daughters name and she told me I didn’t spell it phonetically, which was actually very wrong. Her name is Leighton- they pronounced it Lathan. She told me I didn’t spell her name the way it’s supposed to be pronounced. I was mind blown. I can’t believe this unnecessary push back came from a kindergarten teacher. Luckily we relocated down south to a beautiful school. Unfortunately I can’t even get them to send my daughters assessment to her new school. It was not the greatest experience but I’m so thankful that it didn’t happen in person. I can only imagine how diminished she would’ve felt if my husband and I weren’t able to comfort her. I gave it two stars because her gym and music teachers were awesome, so was the administrative staff, otherwise it would be a one star.
Currently, I have a student at this school. The middle school has been rushed, and frankly subpar. For the entire time they have attended the middle school division, they have complained about rushed and subpar work on the admin’s behalf. In 6th, there was a science teacher that had made them uncomfortable, trying to touch them and breaking their personal bubble. In 7th, They let a teacher fail my child. How, when my child has always excelled in math, do you let a teacher fail this student?
On top of this, the school is small, and they allow my students to have recess- In a rundown, makeshift parking lot. The rooms are squished, and they use the largest room as the Lunchroom/Auditorium/Cafeteria. Where is the logic, that you run around, and workout, and SWEAT, where you eat? To top it off, they can never keep a teacher there for more than two years. No stability for my child there. I would not recommend it. I plan on switching my child’s school very soon. If i could put 0 stars, I would.
The art teacher is ALWAYS upbeat and keeps the same energy. There are a few teachers, however, who aren’t suited to teach 1st grade. Zoom classes are constantly interrupted by faulty equipment, the teachers are constantly chastising kids and the kids are expected to focus while they do their work AND while the teacher tells someone to shut up or sit down every 2 seconds. Only good thing about zoom is seeing teachers true colors and being able to teach my child at home. Schools are becoming absolute garbage.
