My son attends this school. I would like to address some of the issues listed in other comments. Lunches, don’t bother bring your own, saves time to have to wait in line and then gulp down the unappetizing food. Last year 2015-2016 the bullying was horrific and when reported excuses were made and nothing done. However both the Principal and Asst Principal were replaced at the end of last year (after the sex scandal that hit all the news outlets) and this year was down right pleasant. Sure the school is run down but I found the teachers care and were very willing to help as they could. Autistic kids are treated with utmost care and consideration. I assume this also goes for the hearing impaired but I do not have experience with their teachers. I think the biggest issue I saw this year was the front desk staff, they have a woman that is horrible, airhead does not come close to what I am to pleasant to say. Thank goodness she moved to another position (ok only a desk over) and they have a new gal that you have to speak with when you pick up your children for appts, The new gal is very nice and helpful. All in all now that they have new leadership it is a decent enough school. Could improvements be made – of course but nothing is drastic. We all know Middle School is HARD no matter where you go and seriously there are much worse schools than this one!
I TRULY LOVED THIS SCHOOL AND I AM VERY VERY SAD IT’S COMING TO AN END. BEEN HERE ALL THREE YEARS AND HAD THE BEST TIMES OF MY LIFE. (parents reading the reviews do not fret, I know the kids leaving bad reviews and they are all jokers anyways.) Sometimes class is a little meh but you know it’s all good. I had fusion core this year and it’s the most fun I have ever had. Wish it was until high school otherwise I wouldn’t be switching to boulder valley district for high school because legacy SUCKS. I have met so many friends at westlake and yes some of the people here are memes and half the “popular” people vape and do drugs. Just tell your kids to stay with the people they want to hang out with and not to change for anyone in that school because they won’t have a great time and pretending to be someone you’re not isn’t cool at all. BUT THE BEST TEACHER HERE IS MRS. BAYANI THE LEADERSHIP TEACHER SHE WAS MY FAVORITE CLASS ALL YEAR! But I’m glad I will be leaving to broomfield high and starting over and meeting new people and my other friends will be dearly missed. THANK YOU WESTLAKE FOR AN AMAZING TIME!
As a 6th grade girl who goes to Westlake i would say i love it!!! at times its hard and makes me stressed! but other than that its fine. Although i rate westlake only 3 stars because there is a situation i would rather not explain that occurred at westlake. There has also been 2 recent murders in a close by neighborhood front range. I can also say the neighborhood that surrounds westlake can be called creepy and gross.making me hate the walk home from school The school is great though lots of fun nice teachers and nice kids. Of coarse there is drama and many mean kids who say rude and inappropriate things. But there is nothing i can do about the being that is normal for middle school. I came from farther away making it harder to get friends but i quickly made the best friends i would never had met if i hadn’t come to this school.As a normal school it has its ups and downs! just more downs than ups.
