My son and I had an absolutely amazing adventure over Labor Day weekend with Jason Antin from Colorado Mountain School (CMS) – a trip that my son and I will remember forever. There are a few things that standout about the experience. First was the communication with CMS and Jason leading up to the trip. CMS, Jason and I swapped emails and talked several times on the phone so that he could gauge our experience, what we were looking for in our outing and what skillsets we were looking to hone. Jason used this information to craft an experience that catered to our abilities and the areas that we wanted to sharpen. We started off with an easy multi-pitch climb that allowed Jason to assess our climbing ability and get us to a point where we could safely learn the new skills (multi-pitch technique and rappelling) that we were lacking. Once Jason was confident in our ability, Jason led us up a more challenging route – Rewritten in Eldorado Canyon – where we could put these skills to the test.

One of the things that I loved about climbing with Jason was his ever present vigilance. Never in an overbearing or condescending manner, but in the manner of a true master of his craft. He took time to make 100% sure that we had mastered a technique and made sure that we were comfortable on the crag (he even offered to share his lunch with us when a squirrel stole my sandwich). His manner of guiding was the perfect blend of safety, instruction, adventure and fun.

I highly recommend Jason as a guide and Colorado Mountain School as a service for climbers of every level. If you are just starting out or if you are an experienced climber looking to grow your skills, CMS and their guides will cater the experience of a lifetime.

Thank you Jason Antin and Bernardo Beteta for the fantastic course: Alpine Skills for the Recreational Rock Climber/CMS x CMC Alpine Guide Tricks Clinic !!!

They provided an excellent curriculum of skills, discussion, review, and practice for many aspects of how to climb efficiently in the alpine and in general. I learned many new tips and received guidance on improvements and refresher of many skills.

Jason and Bernardo are both incredibly knowledgeable and did a great job communicating and guiding us through all the material and practicing the techniques.

Colorado Mountain School was incredible! I took the AIRE 1 course with Jason Antin in Rocky Mountain National Park over the course of three days. Jason was absolutely incredible! The course was informative and interactive, leaving me feeling equipped to make my way into the backcountry safely. I would, without hesitation, recommend signing up for a course at CMS and with Jason if you’re looking for a fun and formative AIRE 1 experience!
