This school embodies the meaning of a well rounded education. When considering schools for our son, we looked at most of the independent private schools in the area and kept coming back to Kentucky Avenue. We wanted a school that not only placed an emphasis on academics, but also placed an emphasis on a child’s well being, social-emotional development and inclusivity. Our son began there in kindergarten and is flourishing. He is now in 2nd grade and has truly loved all of his teachers, and is excited to go to school each day. While the physical space may not be as fancy as other private schools in the area, it is incredibly warm, welcoming and safe. The communication between school and home has been above and beyond. We are kept abreast of what students are working on weekly as well as any special happenings within the community. My only wish is that we could stay here through 12th grade.
Our family moved to Pittsburgh from another city right as our son was about to enter 6th grade. We researched the local schools, found KAS and immediately knew it was the right place. His exact word to describe the community and the school itself was “cozy.” KAS provided a warm, safe but also challenging learning environment where he made friends and explored ideas, including those around social justice. He and his classmates had the opportunity to apply their learnings in the community, including making their voices heard around gun violence – an issue that impacts all school-age children. We’re grateful to the amazing teachers and everyone at KAS who made middle school a soft landing for our family. We only wish we could have taken KAS with us to high school!
We have been very happy with our daughters education at KAS. The small class size really enables her to be an active participant in her education. She feels seen and heard and everyday shes excited to go to school. The teachers and staff are passionate about education and they provide a warm and nurturing environment. I highly recommend KAS to any family who values academics, creative learning, and an inclusive environment where a child can truly be themselves.
