The benefits he got from the school are difficult to put into words. It might be simpler to state the facts; that he went on to do well enough at Sterrett that he was chosen to speak at his graduation; that he graduated from Allderdice with honors, that he was accepted to Carnegie Mellon University & not only graduated with honors but was asked to speak at his graduation, and finally, that he was accepted into a competitive Ph.D. program at CMU, offered full tuition as well as a living stipend.
I credit all of his academic success to the education he received at PNCS. There is no substitute for the student-teacher ratio therethe small classes, the dedication of the teachers, and the high quality of the volunteers who give their time to augment the curriculum.
I also valued the social and emotional atmosphere at PNCS. As a youngest child my son would have had no opportunity to develop nurturing behaviors if it hadn’t been for the interactions between the upper and lower grades in the school. You can’t put a price on the value of an older child learning to care for a little one.
In addition to all of the above, because the student body is small, my son had the chance to participate in activities that in a larger school probably wouldn’t have been possible, such as theater and chorus. He’s not much of a visual artist but his artwork was always displayed in the auditorium and hallways. If I had a question or concern, the school principal or his teacher always had time for me.
In short, I can’t recommend the Pittsburgh New Church School highly enough.
