I first started going to White’s 2.5 years ago for violin lessons, and have nothing but great things to say about White’s and its teachers. When I initially reached out to Dave (the owner), he was very responsive, worked quickly to connect me with a teacher, and had great recommendations for violin rentals (tip: check out McCarten Violins in Pawtucket!). I had my first lesson with a week or two of first contact.

White’s itself is located in a pedestrian-friendly location, which was great for me, since I live under a mile away and often walked there. Ample parking too, for those who drive. And the teachers work with both adults and children (I’m an adult female). White’s also provides ample recital opportunities throughout the year, and sometimes there are empty rooms to jam out/practice out in, if either is your thing. I also like that lessons are 30 minutes, which IMHO is not too short but not too long.

I really enjoyed working with Maeve Lemus, my strings teacher; she really got a feel for my unique learning style and adapted her teaching methods accordingly. Maeve is also great about listening to and helping students reach their musical goals, and is great at “troubleshooting” with them. Two of my constant struggles, for instance, were dynamics and using adequate amounts of bow, and Maeve always had great suggestions and exercises for practicing at home, which have helped me improve my playing.

I’m not sure when exactly I’ll be back at White’s (there’s a baby on the way!), but I do plan to return when I can! White’s and Maeve gave me a great musical foundation, and have shown me that there is so much more to a performance than just playing notes on a page.

Patient, kind staff that works well with children. Highly sought after, so get your child on the list sooner than later. Many different instruments: drums, piano, strings.
Enjoying watching the progress of our granddaughter.
