I went here for 6th and half of 7th grade the school is really cool in my opinion the students are nice and out going and if they see a student being bullied they speak up. The lunch was ok i brought my lunch some times but yeah. The teacher’s thats a whole new story some are ok and chill like mr childers and Mr.harris but theres some that are not . At thoreau ive always been satisfied but not all the way the schools funding is so bad we have large classes of 30 to 40 the school is low on funding so they cut back on paper when theres things that can be cut back on. The teacher’s barley get paid I’d hate to be a teacher not knowing if you can provide gor your family or not. The assistant principle dosent try to understand the student or where they are coming from its just straight to disciple you never really get to say your side of the incident. Very many teachers add on to the situation thats going on blowing it up watching the student get more angry iys like they antagonize you instead of being the bigger person stepping back and letting you cool down. The counselors are ok there was one i could always go to and talk to and she would always listen she would always be the boost of motivation i needed to get threw the day she was down stairs and the other one was upstairs. The other one wouldn’t even stop typing at her computer she would barely listen to you. Thoreau is filled with good in bad in my opinion if you go to Thoreau be prepared for a bumpy road ahead and a lot of home work making it threw will not be easy. But some of you guys might know me im Jayjouir Roberts i miss (DTP )
Thoreau was definitely one of the best schools in Tulsa when former principal Tom Padalino was there. The administrative staff now is horrible, they hang up on you, you can never talk to the manager. Teachers take them all equally, everyone pays for one. When my son explains that he didn’t do anything, they don’t believe him and why should I believe a stranger (teacher, director) when they tell me that my son is disrupting class, just because they have a title. I will always believe my son over them. I know my son. Teachers get offended by little things, if they talk to friends in class when they are not working on anything, you can’t even get up from your seat to throw your trash away.
Not the best school around. The administration seems to think they have a pretty great school. The majority of the staff members dont have much respect for the students and as a result there isnt much respect for the teachers. Also way too focused on sports! Do they even have a good football team? They do have a really great French teacher though. Grace Elbon is a wonderful teacher. From my kids personal experience this was just not the best environment for learning.
