I wouldn’t recommend this school to any parent, unless they want a robot for a child. My child has been going to this school for a year, and it has been nothing but a nightmare! I have seen children with backpacks so full that if they were to out another piece of paper in it, the bag will explode! I have also seen many children carry not one backpack, not two, but sometimes three! And to top that off, some carry thier lunch bags, and some carry instruments as well as the multiple bags already in tote. The curriculum is a joke, and if your child gets picked up early (and I was told a minimum of three times is “fine”) they will give your child after school detention. They tell you to email them with any questions or concerns, but when you do, you rarely hear from the teachers. I also feel that this school has a racial issue as my child and her friend are always having an issue with the teachers and other students. These “teachers” DO NOT care about the children, all they care about is keeping thier “A”! And another thing, good luck if your child has to go to the bathroom because they can only go a couple of times throughout the semester and they have to have thier agendas signed in order for them to go to the bathroom. You have to pay for everything as well, I’m surprised you’re not paying them for the air that the children are breathing. I feel like this school frowns on individuality because they have so many rules it’s rediculous! I am a parent that enjoys helping my children with thier work, but unfortunately, I am unable to do this with my child as I have requested notes to help with work and have yet to receive anything (not that it makes a difference now because the school year is almost done). PLEASE I urge you, if you are considering putting your child into a charter school, make sure you do more research. This school offers your family “promises” but all you get is disappointment. In the beginning, the thought of my child going to a charter school was a happy one, but unfortunately, it has been nothing but a nagative experience for both my child and my family. NEVER AGAIN! These children will develop stress and anxiety, and you as a parent will also feel the stress as well. So please again if you are considering a charter school, make sure this is something you want to invest your time and hard earned money into as charter schools also do not provide bussing for the children.
My daughter attended this school in 3rd grade- Ms Cofer, it was a great experience. Then she went to 4th, and her team of teachers…wow it was not a very good experience, then 5th her teachers were really awesome! Mr Rhodes, Mrs Pagliuca and Ms Glencer-this is a phenomenal team! It made up for 4th grade. The Elementary Principal Mr Johnson is second to none! As I read the reviews for those in middle school I am a bit concerned as she will be in Middle school this year. If your child/family is having a challenge and things are not running smoothly for you then that is where you will have issues attending this school-as there is no room for anything other than perfection…and frankly this is not reality nor real life. My daughter is well behaved but she is also compassionate and loves to help others…will she get refractions for assisting others??….what are we to expect this 2017-2018 year? As I read the reviews that are not good from students, I appreciate their honesty and their views, then I read reviews from parents/others who say the children are “disrespectful”…honesty is NOT disrespect! I find this to be unacceptable. If you really want to know the truth about a thing ask a child! Overall the Elementary was very good experience for the most part. There are a lot of ridiculous rules…I think this should be revamped—from ridiculous to reasonable…
I’m a parent of a student that graduated in the 1st 8th grade class at Winthrop two years ago. I’m also the husband of, in my opinion, one of the best Educators at Winthrop. I thank all of those who said nice and gracious things in your reviews. As many of you know, being an educator is a challenging task. For those immature students who have said some distasteful and disrespectful things, you all are not a true reflection of the great students at this school and you all are not being a good example of what you’ve been taught by your parents or your teachers. This review section should be for those to talk about the school, not to lie and belittle the educators that have a passion for teaching the children that attend. Parents, please pay attention to what your kids are saying on this public forum and know that the ramifications for their actions will fall on your laps since they are minors.
Winthrop Charter School is a campus full of excellent educators, leaders and people who genuinly care for their students. I would recommend this school to anyone and I would hope you keep an open mind when reading some of the other ignorant reviews.
Kindest Regards,
Craig Woodard, Sr.
