?????????I went to H. S. of Art & Design, many years ago! The teacher, that I had in 8th grade, first told me about this school!
She was incredibly generous giving me & my parents information, & helping us with the paperwork!
?? Sister Dolores Christy.
I have never forgotten her name!
????She was: KIND!????
I remember clearly, that I had to take a test in order to be accepted. ??My dad & I, went on a ??Sunday in order for me to be clear, as to where this school was.
When we both got to the school, & we both looked at it, we couldn’t believe it!??
??Back then it was on 57th st, near Bloomingdales ???Flagship store, & the buildings all around were clearly very high end, & the school itself seemed, so impressive that I was a bit taken aback! 1967!
I was a student from: 1967-1971!
& after 4 long years, full of double homework, ( as a student you had to do your academic homework + your art homework ) I graduated with:?? HONORS!??
I was the first student, to hear from Pratt Institute, in Brooklyn NY.
They were clearly interested in me, because of my grades( I was in the Honor Society ) & my beautiful art work.
??My wonderful parents were very happy for me, but if Pratt had made that decision it wasn’t because they had any money!??
I was chosen entirely on my own merit!??
??Luckily for me, I later on won a ONE year full scholarship, that was a huge help for me! It paid for my freshman year!
Only in ??NYC, you can find such an amazing professional school, like this one!??
For me, it was an HONOR to be a student at ?????????A&D,
so many years ago!
It was an: AWESOME ??
NY ?? experience!

This school does the most to prepare you for a path/career in Visual Arts. A stellar program for anything related to that. While academics are not the top in the city, it is still more than sufficient. Plus, they offer a wide range of electives in your Junior and Senior years. Honestly, why would you be so fixated on that when it’s a school for Art. If you go there to get a 1600 on the SAT please go elsewhere (although it’s possible too). It’s like going to a Chinese restaurant expecting Mexican food. Whoever here trashes on this school’s program just didn’t make the most of it. You have to go in with a mindset for ART, or else you won’t enjoy it to the fullest.
Faculty can vary in personality, and few are actually rude or prejudiced (yet you will always find those people anywhere you go). Super diverse community overall. The most down-to-earth/cultured art high school in NYC. As someone who graduated from the Illustration program, this school is guaranteed to produce well rounded artists by the end of their time here.
Dont go to this school. Why? Because 2022 My Freshman year My art foundation first saw me once and he was nice til then months later,He saw what i did wrong and embarrassed me in front of the entire class saying out loud “(my name) YOU SHOULD NOT BE DOING THAT” and I got quiet and nervous because that type of stuff yelling at me in front of people that gave me a bad flashback of my childhood being yelled at in front of people and from there he constantly did that at times. And The principal does nothing for ur situations Not even Counselors nor deans.
