This is the third year we have been at Oakridge. It is a wonderful school and we have been so happy there. There is a strong family-feeling present, the classes are small, and the teachers caring and inspiring.

The school strives to be both “challenging” and “nurturing” and appears to strike that difficult balance most of the time. It is competitive–but not at all in a cut-throat way–in academics, athletics, and the arts. The arts program especially–visual, theatrical, and musical–is outstanding. But in athletics too there is good success and strong coaching. The emphasis is on fitness, teaching, character-building and participation. Everyone who wants to gets to play, but the teams also experience success by winning a lot.

The campus–between FW and Arlington by the Lake Arlington golf course–is beautiful; it has a country-like feel and a park-like appearance. It is expansive and open with excellent, newer facilities for sports, classes, and the arts. The library is a light-filled, 2 story atrium space, and there is a landscaped courtyard in the middle of the quadrangle formed by the upper and lower schools, the gym, and the large fine arts center.

The Early Childhood Center (ECC) on the west side of the campus has it’s own big, fun playgrounds and cool, modern classrooms for pre-school, pre-K, and Kindergarten. It is nearly the platonic ideal of what a school for little kids should be. Never once did my little one not want to get up and go to school there.

As always, it’s the people–the teachers, coaches, administrators, librarians, techs, aides, specialists, directors, as well as the students and parents–who make it a great school: a great place for kids to learn and grow surrounded by thoughtful, caring people who want the best for them.

Last year was our first year at Oakridge and our son was in the 6th grade. We enjoyed every aspect of the school with the opportunities in academics, arts and the physical education program. We especially enjoyed the opportunity for our son to experience instrumental music for the first time.

Whenever there was a bump in the road, it was handled positively and quickly and we feel very much a part of the family experience at Oakridge! We are looking forward to another great year!

The best educational value for our children. Truly, a college prep school, not just a private school. Oakridge is special among private schools in the Dallas Fort Worth area, partially because of its racial, gender and social diversity of the student body and faculty. But one of the most important distinguishing factors for us is that Oakridge tracks the progress of its students in post graduation college performance and adjusts its curriculum to address future student needs.
